Im playing Just Cause 2 now, which I had to play at 720p with my 260M card. Now on exactly the same settings I play on 1080p with better framerate. It really is an awesome card. The temps Im hitting are 73 C while it being overclocked (900/1130) and 54 when underclocked on 300/400. I really love this beast.
I had to pay customs. But thats because I live in switzerland and I have to have yet a case where I dont pay customs for a parcel from outside of switzerland
-
hmm babyhemi do you send it marked as a gift? i think that usually solves the customs problem...im not too familiar with all that though
-
Anyone have the ati ccc working on their card?

Santa babyhemi and his bag of gifts lol

But since you're over in Swiss and me over her in SouthEastAsia, I'm guessing my temps are gonna be near the 80c - 90c . As it is, when on heavy gaming, the GTX 260M Hits 88c max...
Getting my finances checked to see if its the right time to splurge on the 5870 From BabyHemi. -
catalyst 10.4 just released today, if anyone wants to now.
ATI Catalyst? Mobility Display Driver -
just installed 5870m this afternoon with artic cooling 5 thermal paste! THANKS BabyHemi! using ati 10.3 cay driver, although i am no OC racer, i couldnt find any CCC, it doesnt matter to me, the stock is what im looking for anyway, it's so sweet! Immediately after installing, i downloaded hwmonitor, and i saw the temp was hovering around 66c! so i jumped in to see BFBC2 for a min or two, and OH MY SWEET JESUS, it's SO frigging SILKY compared with 260m at 1080p!! It's so WORTH IT! and i jumped back out to see the temp, and it was 98c!! I immediately shut down the game, and the temp dropped to 77 few seconds later. I am little concerned with temps, but i will see how it goes overnight, perhaps the temp will get better as it did for others in this thread with Artic Cooling 5 paste. But something tells me i should reapply the paste, i think i did it too thinly or something. Any advices? as of right now, i am not gaming, just surfin net for past one hour, it has been floating 66-68c, dont know if it's normal? again, I LOVE THIS CARD! :-D

yeah same here, i'll just wait till someone finds a fix. would be nice to have. just don't understand why some can install it and others can't.

cookinwitdiesel Retired Bencher
I am pretty sure it has to do with registries being messed up from using driver sweeper
that is what I am blaming at least. Will reformat and see if they load properly for me in a few weeks -
Well, I have been informed that the M15x will be getting a new GPU next week, but my hunch is it will be the 5850.
We shall see next week! -
mutoloco did you get ccc running??? -
New CCC and new driver. I just ran the installer, didn't uninstall anything before running it and no driver sweeper or anything like that either.
Oh, still no powerplay so I have to adjust 2D clocks manually like with the 10.3's. -
Just a heads-up, the 10.4's are benching a few hundred points lower than 10.3 in Vantage.
Still gonna stick with the 10.4's, though. -
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
10.6's (beta) do the same thing.
-
I try and stay with official drivers.
I'll test-drive a beta every now and then, though. -
Do you really reckon the M15X will have the 5850 Sleey0?
Good job i'm going to be getting a 5870 -
yeah just noticed fps drops in bf2. and higher temps. with the 10.4

The preview 10.3 gave me a good vantage score. I am hoping to find out what driver up to now gives the best score in vantage? Vote now please...
-
Inapp, nope, cannot find CCC anywhere.

They are delivering the card to me tomorrow so ill let you guys know how the install goes . -
I wonder how the Dell R2 ATI driver would fare? Has Dell even posted one on their support site yet?
Also, might be worth a shot to try the Clevo ATI drivers too. -
Just felt like running FurMark a full 11 minutes or so and see how hot it gets and stabalizes at. Seems like the way I have it now stock clocks 700/1000 it stays right at 95c touching 96c then right back to 95c. Seems consistant too. Note also that my air is turned off and the house is around 72F (22.2c) with the window open in my room, no notebook coolers or fans or anything .
InappropriateName_3 I ended up layering 1mm thick EK thermal pads on the memory, and on some of the other components I stacked the 1mm thick EK pads (cutting and putting them on). I mounted the heatsink a couple of times testing boot up and temps and checked to see where I was getting good impressions. I went back and layered up some parts more and I think it's made some difference. For those of you interested in the 1mm EK Thermal best place to get them is frozencpu.com -

-
Yah. I thought that's what you were doing ;-)
Oh and I had The Chemical brothers - Escape Velocity running in the background via youtube....the temp was climbing in sync with the track. -
thanks for the recommendation, but out of stock right now, guess i have to wait a bit. -
-
I just ran it at 1400x900 fullscreen, 8x msaa, post fx and I got 98c/99c back and forth after a little over 8 minutes. No cooling pad or anything so I don't think I can get much better on temps without a new cooler or something more drastic . Good to see some comparison temps though.
lol it jumps nice and slow i kept listening to a couple of songs and watched it slowly just trickle up lol! -
geeze thats a little hot IMO... never wanna see my gpu go to 99... i know it could take it... but knowing that i can cook an egg on my lappy...is not cool lol
I'm wondering if theres a way to increasing cooling further...and im not talking about paste an dthermal pads.. or laptop coolers... im thinking... what if we were to add copper to the heatsinks? .. a friend of mine did this years ago and got pretty good results... might be tricky tho in a laptop...
What about fan speeds? it bothers me that we can't alter fan speeds in the m15x... or maybe upgrade the fans to higher RPM ones... anyone think these are possible? Might need a bigger power block maybe?
I know during gaming you wont reach such temps.. but when i get my 5870 im thinking of Oc'ing... i wanna turn my m15x into a MONSTER under the hood
Hmmm maybe ill just attach my A/C to the intake vents on the bottom... and feed it a constant flow of Cold air Lol... -
-
You have to remember that furmark is pretty unrealistic and you will most likely NEVER see those temps during gaming.
I just had a real long (2 hour) crysis session just now and the core maxed @ 86.
full res all settings high and 2xAA.
Crysis seems to be the best game to stress the card without resorting to synthetics like furmark.
I am happy with my temps. The 5870 seems to run a little on the warm side to begin with AND the M15x HS isn't the beefiest thing I have seen.
So a pretty average HS (like mine) seems to be keeping temps in check -
Megacharge Custom User Title
99c is hot, I hope I wont have problems with temps when I get my dual 5870's in my M17x.
EDIT: Ethan, you are surrounded. lol -
You should be fine. -
-
Yeah Furmark is completely for stability and stress purpose. A game should never run that hot ever as sleey0 said. I just got done with a hour and half of playing bad company 2 in dx11 mode, maxed settings, maxed aa and af, and maxed resolution. Max temp my core saw 84c with a 76c average, memory saw max 88.5c with an average of 79.9c. So those are completely within spec and pretty safe for this card. Heck compare the temps of the Asus G73JH users, most of them see higher temps than I do under standard gaming .
-
Cool, i wonder when the m15x with 5870 will comes out on the site .. Uhm ?
-
-
-
Well, I have owned both and have dissected both.
From my observations, the M15x's cooling system is much better than the G73's.
Have you opened up the G73 and looked? The heatsinks in that system are quite puny, IMO, and it showed during stress testing. Another huge mistake they made is there are no direct vents for intake.
Add in the other issues and you have a pretty unstable system. -
Hey sleey0 do you always have your card overclock or only when you benchmark?
-
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
I agree what has been said by one about Furmark that it is unrealistic as to what you want the card for. If you can for hours at a time play your favorite games smoothly at decent temps then what else is important. That's the realistic test to the card really...IMO.
-
Has anyone tried GTA4 yet? I mean the original one, not DLC. I can only get half the frame rate compare to 260m. Any idea?

Awesome! Np, hopefully that will knock down a few more degrees or so under load with some good stacked pads all over the card .
