I'm in contact with them, I'll let you know in case I got my hands on a 6970.
-
Well, the cards are available for ordering (we have a decent supply) but you'd still need to mod a HS. You can utilize a 5870M HS but it requires some cutting.
Dunno if Clevo HS can be used, doubt it... -
Really? Isn't it the standard MXM 3.0 layout?
-
It is, but look here.
-
Ok, thanks, haven't seen this... I have to take a more detailed look at the heatsink and the room inside the M15x again.
-
AFAIK, the 5870M HS is the closest to fit the 6970M, you may even escape the cutting/trimming and simply choose different pads. But this surely needs a further research.
-
Well, I have a M15x... I can't use a Clevo HS. And for the M15x there's only one heatsink.... I'll see.
-
Anyone with welder friends can get them you make a custom all copper heatsink.
-
But generally it's a good idea, I know someone who has access to CNC mills... with the exact specs it might be possible to make something. Hmm. -
We have no m15s inbound, so I have no idea
i think they need someone to send them an m15x to test it. -
i would send mine if i could keep it "if" it was successful
-
Someone here will test it, I think it's just a matter of waiting for the Dell 6970's to appear.
-
-
-
Not exactly, normally you can't buy a card as long as it isn't available for your system... at least that's what I expererienced when I called several Dellienware agents about the 5870.
To get an idea of the layout check out the link which Aikimox posted on the previous page. -
-
I'm going to order a card from mxm-upgrade, but first of all Dell needs to revive my syste, it died somehow last night... instead of the logon screen there are only about 3 lines of pixels across the screen. I'm at the phone with a Dell rep atm.
I'll let you know when I have the card. -
-
There are different versions?
First of all I need luck with Dell fixing my system... it's so annoying to run all the tests the rep asks for... -
-
Hmm, interesting... I laways thought it had 960 shaders... we'll see.
-
Yeah a user around here got lucky and received one with unlocked shaders. No one else has though.
-
i do have my r3 already so anyone in the bay area that wants to meet up and try this. i'm willing to help.
-
inap do you still have your m15x? you can test it yourself and tell us what happens.
-
naw M15x is long gone now. thats why i need someone willing to try this out.
i'm currently trying to contact someone right now about it. -
-
I wish you two the best of luck
-
Good to know... in this case I can postpone ordering the card.
-
Im waiting in anticipation to hear from you how it went
-
hahah its prolly gonna happen some time next week, since rogue is busy till then.
-
Now if only I can get hooked up this end. I asked Kobalt but I got a pretty strong impression that they didn't want me fiddling with their Clevo parts on a Alienware...
-
at least wait till next week to see if the dell part works, crossing fingers.
-
whose testing? where is the results gonna be posted? Thanks! -
-
Alright I'm back in town. Hopefully tomorrow (or within the next few days) we can get this tested out.
-
-
Hope for the best!
-
Go figure man! Hope it works out. Some guys like you in this forum are the real scientist of mods. Help others with the discovery ^^.
-
If you hook up with Inap please let us know whether he is infact human or (as I suspect) a supercomputer housed in a robotic body. I have theories to be clarified.
-
Nah man he's an Alien from planet ALX. Him and Revelator came to this earth and left the blue prints for their computers codenamed "MX-ware" lying around when they visited Dell. After Dell acquired Alienware, they used the blue prints to create the all powerful series and named them the M1(*)x. That's why they know so much.
-
The Revelator Notebook Prophet
I think Inap screwed up when he left the blueprints. The R3 was supposed to be for the M15x, not the M17x. Would have been perfect too, with the 2920xm. LOL.
-
Yeah there has always been a problem with the Alien translation. The 5 and 7 have been mixed up. That's why we got a massive computer for a 15 incher and the R3 is small in comparison.
-
sorry guys i have alien dyslexia.hehehe if it were up to me i'll make an M24x and up. hahaha
-
-
Nah, not CEO. Managing Director of Alienware though...now that is something I would sign. Just imagine it...we'll might actually see a M15x R3 with a 485m!
Anyways this thread is going off topic. All the best for trying out that new card. I still got my heart set on the 470m. It's going to work dammit! -
prolly by tomorrow night i should have something to report. been a busy day.
-
Inap you are making this really hard for me. Should I keep my kidney or sale it so I can afford one of these baby. Good luck with the experiment!!
-
If this is successful, man, AW M15x is hell of a upgradeable machine.
-
I hope it's possible... I don't like the idea of parting with my baby just to have a 6970 =(
-
Right now I am owning an M15x, but going to replace it by an m17x next month. After the M17x has arrived, I am going to put the 6970 into the M15x for some testing if it works or not. Due the fact that most games are limited by the graphics adapter, this would gain a great performance boost
*M15X + 6970* Anyone thinking of trying when they come out?
