I had the m11x R2 upon release date like couple years ago I think. No comparison in the quality of the display on the m14x and the resolution difference along with real estate really come together nicely. The raw performance bump from your R1 to the m14x r2 will be huge. Cosmetically the m14x r2 is very similar in build to the R1 but has added weight to it. I am very happy with the overall package of the m14x r2 and fits my need for a portable workstation.

maybe they are having issues verifying payment or something. Have you called in to speak to a human or just spamming the "F5" button and praying that it ships

Got a great deal from a referred Dell Canada rep and unexpectedly placed an order for a Nebula Red M14x at 9:30pm yesterday! :D

    Estimated delivery date: 8/6/2012

My rep said that end of July is the fiscal year end for Dell so they should be trying to get everything out as fast as they can before the end of the month. We will see. :)

I'm jealous, mine is close to your specs and am hoping for an early ship date as well :)

    * Edit #1 * - it shipped 07/27/2012
    * Edit #2 * - it's in Toronto as of 07/30/2012 (might be delivered on the 31'st)
    * Edit #3 * - 07/31/2012 It's here ;)

The wait is over. I've literally just pulled it out of the box. Initial comparison is that compared to my m17xr3 it is, obviously, notably smaller... almost cute if you will :)
I was looking for something portable and think this is going to fit that requirement. Also the nebula red looks good.. it's like a dark velvet red... nothing too showy just good looking.
Anyways will give it some mileage and likely make a post about my introduction to this machine later.

My M14x R2 arrived on July 30th! I have to say I didn't get too hyped up about the notebook because I didn't want to be disappointed, but man, this thing just exudes s e x appeal. (it is rather sad that the forum censors a legitimate word like that) I've never had a piece of electronics that makes you smile just typing on it. :)

A note with regards to people were slamming folks who choose to get Nebula Red versus Black. One person even said it was "immature" to choose red. This thing looks nothing like the red in the photos: It is a darker, metallic red, than the brighter red in the photos. It's simply not something that is easy to photograph; I can easily see a camera flash making it appear brighter than it is. For comparision, it looks closer to the red in my signature. Although, the colors are apparently bad by default on this LCD, until corrected by a color profile, so perhaps the red you see isn't the same :)

If the red looks immature, I don't want to know what they think a white keyboard with raspberry pink outlined touchpad and Alienware logo looks like. ;)

To all the expectant Dads (and Moms) out there, the wait is oh so worth it.

    Heeey!

I'm also from Ontario, Canada and I just recently ordered my M14X on the 26th of July (one day before Olympics! :D) and it's still "in production"! I called in today hoping to find out if I could know how much longer "in production" would take but, they didn't tell me anything except what I already knew. :'( The EDD for it is on the 10th of August. I've never been so impatient before! I just really hope it ships soon! I think it might be taking so long because the one I bought was on sale until the 3rd of August. Today is day 5 of production, I hope it ships soon! Yaaay! So excited. :)

EDIT 07/31/12: It seems that right after I called them, it shipped off! Although, I didn't know until I checked the website at night. They never sent an e-mail which what I relied on the most. But I can't wait! :)

EDIT 08/02/12: It has finally made it to Toronto! WOOOOT! Should be here by tommorow! So pumped! :)

EDIT 08/03/12: It finally made it! After 5 days in production! And only 3 days in shipping! The laptop is great. I love it :)

Sorry for the double post. But what do you guys think the chances are that I get my laptop on or before the EDD. I've looked through a ton pages of this topic and have seen a lot of different experiences. I just need it before I go back to school on the 19th. If it helps, I live in New Jersey.

I had mine ordered Monday (6th August), it started building on 7th (Tuesday) and seems to have already finished on Thursday. It's gone into the 'ship from factory' node, which I assume means its in holding before it's to be sent to their courier.
I also received an automated E-mail from Dell saying its ready to ship, so I presume that Dell will release it to the shippers on Monday, then I ought to get it on Tuesday.

EDD said August 17th at first, but quickly shifted forward to August 14th once it reached the Manufacturing Build Complete node.

Oh, right. I received mine 13th August in the morning. I actually asked for an afternoon delivery, but... well, I was sleeping...

At least the courier called before leaving, instead of just waiting then going.

Ordered on 8/7, shipped on 8/14, ETA 8/16. Went all SSD, 900p, 16gb. I do play games on it (MW3 when I travel, SWTOR, etc) - but also run VMs on them, hosting instances of SQL Server, etc. Previous owner of an M11R2 which I was very happy with...had a hing problem which is being fixed under warranty, but used that excuse to retire it to the wife and grab this slightly larger M14.

Seeing that prior to the M11R2 I had a 17" XPS that litterally weighed 10lbs - I'm hoping this 14" will be the sweet spot!

Depends on the capacity. If you can only get a 32GB or 64GB MSATA SSD, it won't last long or be much use as an OS drive (as Appdata and miscellaneous background files etc. can build up quickly), so it's best configured to cache. I personally recommend no less than 80GB for a drive that is intended for OS and program usage. 64GB may be workable if you don't install programs to C:\ at all, but otherwise...

    thanks for the reply.

i get by with about 20Gb free space on my desktop with a OCZ 60Gb SSD.

i use the 60Gb SSD for the OS and programs like Chrome, Office, Etc then i just install all my games and store Docs on a separate 1Tb HDD.

been fine with this type of setup for about 2yrs. so storage on the SSD is a non issue for me. its just from what ive read (cant find much on the subject) it seems that using the mSata for Cache (IRST) seem to be preferred for better avg system wide performance. which sounds awesome. till i start searching about info Acronis back ups, defraging, etc.. which turns up a big fat 0.

Ordered my R2 yesterday, came to a little over €1K (about $1,300) which was a pretty good deal over this side of the pond! Got the i7-3610QM, 6GB RAM, 500gb drive and upgraded the screen to 1600x900. Didn't bother upgrading the GPU to 2GB as it would appear to be unnecessary for gaming at the native resolution of the laptop. Plan to get a Crucial 64GB mSata drive and fit it myself. Just have to sell my M14X r1 now :(

It was shipped from Lebanon, TN. I'm in CA.

You should be getting yours pretty soon. The afternoon of 9/12, mine still says in production. But when I checked again that night, it says it's already shipped, and then when I checked the tracking number from Fedex, it's already in CA.

As with many forums I have on bookmark I'm a long time reader, and for this forum first time poster ;)

I always appreciate the information everyone shares on here, and thought maybe someone might find my information helpful. Particularly to those individuals waiting on their orders and checking everywhere to see what's going on... Please do not take any of this as complaining, I only wish to post so much detail because I know others who ordered around the same time as me, may or may not be having issues, and if they need a tracking buddy I'm here for them :D

Order Date: Sunday, September 2, 2012 [Late Evening]
Estimated Shipping Date @ Order Time: Wednesday, September 12, 2012 ordered with Next Business Day

Payment cleared and was in production morning of Monday, September 3, 2012.

First Information After Placing the Order Posted on Monday, September 3, 2012 [Labor Day - Federal Holiday here in the U.S.]
Estimated Ship Date: Wednesday, September 12, 2012
Estimated Delivery Date: Thursday, September 13, 2012

Called Dell Order Status 800 Number on Tuesday, September 4, 2012 [next business day after ordering] and spoke with representative to check that nothing was back-ordered. I was assured everything was great, and was told order would be expedited.

Received Call & E-Mail Wednesday, September 5, 2012 from my Dell Rep who said everything was going well.

Received call & E-Mail every other day from Dell Rep to say the same: Everything is going well...

Finally, on Monday, September 10, 2012, I directly asked, after hearing some issues with increased ordering load due to back-to-school, Labor Day, and seasonal autumn promotions, if everything was really in stock and on-time... Answer: Yes, yes everything is on-time.

Received Voicemail from Dell Rep 1400 HRS [EDT] on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 (day it was supposed to ship), and he read to me from the same script he always read from: "Mr. XYZ, This is ABC from Dell Customer Service calling about your order number 123456789. I am calling to let you know your order has an estimated ship date of 12 September and an estimated delivery date of 13 September. If you have any questions concerning..." I'm sure you all know the rest... And then I knew there was an issue because the script didn't change...

I called back and was given the usual run around... Anyway...

    "The" E-Mail @ 0357 HRS [EDT] Thursday, September 13, 2012
We're Sorry About the Delay with Your Order...
Estimated Ship Date: Wednesday, September 19, 2012 (updated)
Estimated Delivery Date: Thursday, September 20, 2012 (Updated)

Spoke with my Dell Rep the evening of Thursday, September 13, 2012, and the flood gate of excuses started flowing:
    1. Apparently due to heavy order volume some parts ended up going into temporary shortages [none that were sustained]...
    2. There had been a problem with the keyboard which they had to swap out...
    3. At the build facility Dell was assembling mine at apparently there was a "bad batch" of parts that had to be replaced in the systems that was not discovered until they were already in place. [They use JIT manufacturing for the most part in case anyone is curious there are a few good articles on the process Dell implement links to which can be found mostly on these forums. It explains why that really is not too much of a delay...]

So, in conclusion, for now, @ 2203 HRS [EDT] Friday, September 14, 2012, I just hung up the phone with Dell Rep who said it is that the unit is in "Ship Notification Stage" which is in the 'Final Stages' portion of "In Production"...

Side Note: I have been always bought Dell for all my computers except the personal ones that I only use I have always bought Alienware since early 2000s, this is the first Alienware I am purchasing under complete Dell control. Every single experience has been good and positive, except one ironically which was place in the same Labor Day weekend in 2002 and Dell handle it very well then as they are now. I even bought one from them online the second first week they ever started online orders back in the mid-1990s. And as for my last Alienware it was an Area51-m15x [yes with the horrible design, massively destructive hinge issues, and the Nvidia 8800GTX with hybrid power that cannot have drivers upgraded past the v186 driver!], but I logged many hours of University Academics and World Travel on it so it did serve me well [except for not being able to close it because of the hinge issues whole thing is cracked up!]

Best of Luck to All!!! And Happy Computing!

If anyone wants sys config details et cetera, I'd be more than happy to provide them...

So after a few months of consideration, I've finally ordered one for myself. It's time to put my m1730 in my "museum", because aliens should be at my doorstep as soon as the 28th of Sept.

Very cool! I think the M14x R2 is going to be one of my favorites because I remember the last 15.6" I purchased I thought to myself jeez I wish there was a 14" :D May your aliens have an expedient and safe landing!

To update my last information, I received a call today just shy of 1700 HRS [EDT] from my Rep saying that a carrier was about to be assigned, and now just a little after 2200 HRS [EDT] on Monday, September 17, 2012, the order status is now:
"Your order has now Shipped on September 19, 2012 with an Estimated Delivery Date of September 20, 2012."

I've heard in the past many other people have received notification that their package had already shipped out in the future, now I guess I am one of them

@greenfield, when I was speaking with my Rep asking some follow up questions it does seem they are shipping early for many people right now, so hopefully you might that system a bit early!

Thanks and yes, they've said 28th should be the last possible date, well, unless something goes wrong.

Nah, you'll be good. In all my years [with many orders in them] with Dell and Alienware both I have only ever had two delays, this one and the Fall of 2002 same Labor Day weekend, they really do not happen often!

Update Tuesday, September 18, 2012 just after 1400 HRS [EDT]
M14x R2 shipped via FedEx overnight and is due to deliver in the early A.M. :D

This whole Dell shipping to Canada is a pile of sheit. My m14x was shipped out on sept 13 from TN or TX, couldnt remember which. Its still in transit in the US and havent crossed the border yet. I was told by Purolator that once it crosses the border into Canada they will still need 2 days to get it to me. This notebook is not cheap, u would expect better shipping from Dell.

I am leaving for a 3 weeks vacation and told them I will need it by then, they said I will have it b4 I leave for sure.

I know what your saying... I honestly do not think their means of shipping are that optimal now days. I ordered mine as you can see and I had to leave the Saturday after it was supposed to arrive [last Thursday]. Needless to say, it didn't matter what I said to the rep clearly, no one within the organization the way it is setup now can really do anything, and I think that needs to change because it did not used to be like that. My laptop finally did arrive today [I had someone sign for it while I was away], but I am really hoping the quality is still the tops because I certainly will not put up with the customer service if this is the way it is now. [I'm trying to be positive and think that the horrible nature of the customer service happens less likely than not].

Edit: Update Wednesday, September 19, 2012 - Delivered
All in all almost 3 weeks... I love the NBR forums I always read them, so I'll stick around for awhile ;)

P.S. Everyone just ordering or ordering now I wish you all the best of luck with the smoothness of the transaction! And if this is your first order, I assure you, patience is rewarded :D Happy Gaming & Computing to All!

I ordered the m14xr2 (will be my first alienware/dell product) on 9/15/2012 edd says it will arrive 9/27/2012. I picked the base one and only upgraded the graphics card, the other things I wanted Im sure I could do myself. Cant wait for it to get here because Im typing on a gateway nv55 and its slow lol.

Hi guys, I ordered mine from Dell Canada on Sept. 11, after chatting with a representative. The estimated delivery date was Sept. 24, but it arrived on the 19th. This was with the regular free shipping. I get the impression that the estimated date is the worst case, but maybe it's different for Canada vs US.

It's a pretty good machine so far, the keyboard is comfortable to type on, it has good sound and is able to drive my 250-ohm headphones adequately, and it plays BF3 multiplayer very smoothly on medium settings at 900p. Maybe the only complaint is the fan noise that comes out of it when playing games, but it seems to stay cool anyway.

    Hey,
Placed my order for my first ever Alienware on the 24th of September, EDD 4th of October.
However, the status changed to 'in production' only on the 29th of September
Can't see them completing the production and shipping to London in 2 days, delay seems inevitable unfortunately..

Hey,i placed my order for the M14X R2 on the 19th of September, the estimated delivery of which was 2nd October which has now been changed to 23rd of October.i even informed them that i would be leaving the country very soon and i need the delivery on time and yet this has happened.i have already made a million calls to Dell and all they do is transfer my calls from one department to another.i am absolutely disappointed with how Dell functions and do not expect such terrible service from them.i am left with only two options, either i cancel the order or ask someone to collect the order for me.
