Thanks for the video, dont sound to bad really considering the game is heavy on the GPU&CPU. My MBP sounds far worse even when watching youtube :) its from 2010 but still, using nvidia 330m , good old times :)

    AW17, GTX980, 16gb

    Ordered: 3/30/2015
    EDD: 04/17/2015

Still in production. It was delayed a few days until a specific department could call me to verify my name and telephone number LOL. I tried calling, emailing and chatting. No one could help me from customer service to the billing or accounting dept. I had to wait for the call. I'm hoping it still arrives early. I use my notebooks for work and play. Love my desktop, but I can't be near it often anymore.

I ordered a AW15 last month and I liked it so much that I returned it and ordered a beefier AW15:

    i7-4710/8GB/1TB/GTX980m/4k screen/2yr accidental

Price was $2,100 and I got a free Dell Windows tablet along with 5% cash back.

    Ordered: 03/28/15
    EDD: 04/13/15

I didn't worry about upgrading the ram and HDD through dell since I can do that myself. I've been refreshing dell.com, ups.com, and fedex.com daily since I've been getting impatient (still in production). Supposedly the 980M supports gsync and I will put that to the test since I have a shiny new Acer XB270HU here to connect it to.

Finally decided to order this beast :D
    i7-4710/16GB/512GB SSD + 1TB/GTX980m/4k screen/4yr accidental+nextday support for fixing hardware.
    Order date: 2015 April 8
    Delivery estimate: 2015-04-27

Was thinking to buy the SSD from amazon but the prices at not that much cheaper so i put it in there from start to be covered by the 4 year warranty. This beast is pricy with maxed out components but then again i used my MBP for 5 years now so if this last me 5 years i will be happy. I have 4 years full cover also included so its nice.

ps. Living in EU makes everything more expensive, i know much of the components are way cheaper in US but i cant get them here sadly.

I hope i dont find any deadpixel or fabrication faults. My last Alienware m11x had a few factory problems so i'm a bit nervous but on paper it looks awesome :D and the design is also fantastic. I loved theh m11x but had to return it due to some annoying issues.
Really excited about my little beast :D

Any problems you have (if any) generally will be rectified fairly quickly by Dell/Alienware. The truelife screen is amazing and the 980m is awesome.

Thanks for the encouragement guys. A friend of mine purchased the new RB14 and even he is excited to see my new AW15 since I'm getting a much more powerful GPU, more HDD space, better screen, and better warranty for less than he paid for his machine with the 970M. If he likes it, he will return his RB14 for a AW.

yea they are fantastic machines, it really is my favorite laptop out of all the laptops I have owned. Was just playing some Dead Rising 3 at a constant 60fps with the 780ti connected through the graphics amplifier, such smooth gameplay is something you will not really get out of any other laptop, that includes the SLI solutions that are currently on the market.

Lets hear what you think about your new laptop once you have had time to play with it, really curious what you think about the QHD screen. I never like screens with glass over them, i see to much reflection on it. Although with the touch added to the mix i could not resist getting the QHD myself, i think it will be useful with Win10 and when browsing maybe :D

The truelife screen isn't a regular old glossy screen. Its specially designed to be less reflective.

That said there will still be reflections just not as much compared to older glossy screens.

Got mine finally first impression.. 4 m.2 slots and no raid! what a waste, lacking a few options from previous builds can be overlooked ... BUT. not being able to take advantage of ones the unit does have . Thumbs down. Tho it will be a good ****ter for a few years i will never buy Alienware again .

Um you've known about the no raid thing for like at least 3-4 weeks now, and you've made multiple remarks about it on multiple different topics.

Why are you acting like this is the first time you've realized this?

It may come in a future BIOS update, it may not. If it bothers you then nows the time to return it.

Thanks for pointing that out , would be nice to hear a response from Alienware at some point, anything besides i will forward that to the engineers. Since i have not heard a response i tend to throw that in there when i feel like it. If you do not like my comment just do not read it, but thanks for trolling me out man.

Man i wish i didn't have to keep repeating myself. There are plenty of Dell/Alienware reps on this site and many others, and it would be just great to have a honest answer one way or the other, as i'm am fairly certain there is a definite answer to this question. Showing a bit of respect for their customers, instead of keeping us in the dark like a bunch of sheeple would be greatly appreciated from someone who has supported their products for years.

I can see why people get upset when features are removed in models but then again with SSD's becoming so fast i also dont see how much of an impact RAID would do. I tried to see if i could find any good article and here i did find some good testing:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-raid-benchmark,3485-9.html

Its obvious that just for showing up numbers RAID is great but in real workd cases its a matter of 1 second or less difference with RAID compared to regular SSD. Read through the whole article and you will reallize that its a waste of money to setup raid. Not justifying DELL for not having this but rather explaining that the benefit of having this is minimal at best.
I just ordered myself an AW15 so i'm really looking forward to getting it :D

I see your point but even with performance put aside its still nice to be able to tie those 4 drives together into one. Also would be just nice to actually hear a "Official" response to the matter either way.

Sure its always nice to know the reason for things but still its also good to know that your not missing on a huge benefit here.

Any how i got a question for u :) i been trying to google this but sice this AW15 model is so new i have not been able to find any good info on this. I was wondering how easy it is to replace the battery on AW15? I believe its now inside the chassis but not sure how deep inside. The service hatch seems to only give access to RAM, m.2 stick and 2.5HD slot. Cant see any battery in there. Would appreciate some more insight.

hehe yeah thats what i would like to find out. Maybe someone here already digged deeper and would like to share some insight? :)
I really like that fact that we can change so much in AW and this is why i'm not getting a new MBP. Reading about how the battery is used to compensate for a weaker power adapter (which is really not an issue) i'm afraid the battery will wear down a few year from now (2-3 years maybe) so it would be nice to know its possible to change the battery without to much problem.

I don't see how that's him "trolling you out". You've known about this before you bought the laptop, so why complain about something you've known about before owning it? You can still return it.

So far I'm loving the 4k screen. It isn't as glossy as I expected and the colors seem really accurate to my eyes. I was a bit unsure about ordering the 4k screen sight unseen since I already had the 1080p matte screen on the one that I returned but now I'm happy that I paid for the upgrade. Touch seems pretty accurate and makes up for the lackluster touchpad.

I already know about no RAID before I have received it. But I am still going to feel disappointment when I receive the laptop in the flesh and see it has no RAID. Its the going from in theory to hard reality.

    Um no lol.

Knowing that a laptop doesn't have RAID before you buy it isn't a theory. It's a hard fact, or like you put it a hard reality. So your analogy should be, it's like going from hard reality to hard reality.

And how are you going to feel disappointed? You knew EXACTLY what you were buying. It's not like people have been telling you that it "might" have RAID and then when you get it you're like awww no RAID /cry.

I didn't think it would have been so hard to comprehend that. How do you know something but not make reality of it like that? It's a piece of technology, if it doesn't have it, it doesn't have it.

Maybe going from knowing but in denial to having but realizing, IDK.

Don't think you fully understand the point of view, or my description is not clear enough. It about having the product in hand, that is something most people cannot do with these units, seeing the M.2 slots with own eyes. There still is actually no reason theory why it cannot have it. I believe in another forums someone has unlocked RAID with BIOS mod. So in theory the hardware can support RAID but the hard reality it is locked. More about see it all there but crippled when it doesn't need to be, which is a shame.

Vampyren, you're from Norway as well, right?

Have you contacted Dell regarding a 240W PSU yet? I'm wondering if it'll turn out to be a huge hassle, in which case I might opt for the 970M instead, but I'm not sure..

I'm from Sweden, I went thorough a few calls until I reached the technical department. They Did know about this phenomenon but they have no possibility to change the order since they laptop is build somewhere else according to them. In the other hand they seemed very helpful and assured me that if I encounter any Problem with the 180w they would send me the 240w. To be honest I'm not that worried about it. From all The articles and comments i been reading I think aw users the battery for extra juice when it needs to. Checking gpuboss comparing the gpus I clearly would want the 980 since I plan to use this laptop for years to come so personally i want it maxed out

Okay. I'll make a few calls tomorrow and see what's up.

After watching these videos, I'm pretty sure I want a 240W PSU.

Great demo. Although i think this info should be considered as well:
    Taken from the firmware page(
    http://www.dell.com/support/home/us...de=alienware-15&languageCode=EN&categoryId=BI):

    [EC]
    Modify:
1.Modify Charger IC control for 180W AC throttling.
2.Using average temperature even fan is max rpm.Version A02, A02
Would be great to see this exact test with this bios and see it the problem occurs?
Also i would like to know the battery status when he made the test. As mentioned if the battery is really low that could also affect the result. Still i would also bang on Dell's door once i get my laptop if the firmware don't remedy this issue. This videos are great examples we can both use :D
