HOW??? There's no logic in this. We order from the uk. And it gets sent from China. Yet you get it from the uk? WTH?

On a side not I'll check the status again. Seems like everyone's is coming fast. Also someone's fidex package is 4.5kg. But dell has listed my shipping weight as 3kg. Did you go all out and get cases etc?

Congratulations, do post your thoughts especially around the temps considering it follows a cooling design similar to that of AW15 R3.

    I'm from Belgium.
It is solid but not that heavy, I got the OLED display and it it gorgeous. There is nothing in the box, some doc and the power supply that's it.
It is silent when just browsing the web, I haven't played yet. [IMG]

All of them are made in China and "technically" ship from China. However, the shipping label may show the origination address as their local distribution center as it was shipped there from China first.

Could be they have Norwegian keyboard there as apple does the same, apple ships mac with Norwegian keyboard from Ireland...

That be some nice packaging indeed.
    No hat though ;)

Still, looks amazing! I know what you mean about the gloss. Much better.

And to think, a 1060 is in that. Brilliant.

Apologies for the noob question & it's probably due to not having purchased a laptop in a long time but the last time I did, they used to ship a CD/DVD or USB for the OS. Is that an obsolete practice now?

How does one re-install the OS should there ever be a need?

No you just download an OS image from dell if you need to re install.
make a backup USB when you get it as well from within windows.

Oh dear! (For me). Ordered same day as you. Shipped two days later on the 29th. If the pattern is the same as yours. I'm expecting Saturday then for two days apart. But I do t think it will be delivered then unless they expedited it. Which would mean a further 2 more days meaning Monday the 5th with EDD 6th

Also what was your latest EDD?

Syncreon always had 8th Dec, but that has changed to 1st Dec, in line with UK Mail this evening. Before all this, there was a note dated 30th Nov to say "Plan Committed", which im guessing is when the courier handover occured.

I think our laptops are on the same container. Knowing how syncreon/UK Mail work we will most likely receive them Monday. They won't ever deliver on a Saturday in my experience.

So jealous of you people getting your machines in early December. I am in Canada and I ordered 1st time on 11th of Nov, when it gave me a EDD of 15th of Dec...From what I saw in the forum, everyone has a delivery date earlier than me.

Black Friday came and I re-ordered with a better deal, now the EDD is 19th, which is making me really impatient....

Just wanted to rant a bit, I really hope you guys enjoy your new laptop when you get it!

    PM961 1tb awesome drive

They are Samsung but scan are selling them as "scanFX" drives to get round samsungs ban on selling OEM drives not part of a system.

    1TB ScanFX M.2 (22x80) PCIe 3.0 (x4) NVMe SSD, Polaris, Read 3000MB/s, Write 1150MB/s, 360k/280k IOPS, OEM

    I would get the Crucial MX300 M.2 1,05TB
It's a Sata based M.2 ssd, so max speed is 550mb/s which is more then enough for just storage and its also a lot cheaper then the 950 pro.

Or the Samsung 850 EVO M.2 1TB, also sata based and a lot cheaper.

Some great info there. Cheers. I was eyeing up the 961 but wanted to amend a bit less than that really.
The 850 evo would do the trick of I could find one for same at a good price. Doesn't have to be blisteringly fast.

Thanks for the link. I have ordered mine with 512gb storage and was planning to add a 1tb m.2, mostly due to price considerations, but this NVMe looks very much within my price range.

Yeah as i said about a month ago they took them down on many sites including scan, I had a pre order so they honored it.

when i called scan to ask they said they could only offer them as part of a system from now on and for retail Samsung has told them they can only sell the pro's and evo's.

they must have seen people were cottoning onto the fact that the pro isnt that much more than a fancy black n red sticker and the SM/PM are just as good

they give all the no drivers bull and stuff but that's crap just stick them in an they just work has been my experience anyways

Scan have found a way round there petty rules would seem

This temperature "differential issue" is blown out of proportion. It's not well understood or explained. It's not great it reaches near Tjunction limit, but what that poster shows in BF1 multiplayer doesn't really show any great disparity between cores (that's not a problem anyways) - it just shows that it will throttle, not sure how much though.

Also...this is one device so far.

Man....there is a lot of bad science being applied in that thread. Makes me glad I don't spend that much time in those parts of the internet (where everyone is an "expert"). From what I have seen, you will usually get better advice/science/facts here than Reddit fwiw.

That being said, I did not see anything in that thread that had me running for the hills. It looks like a relatively simple repaste/manually tweaking the tension on the heatsink and you should be fine. So much noise is being made about this 3 screw heatsink design.....there have been high end laptops doing that for a long time now. The Razer Blade has used a 3 screw design for every generation as far as I could tell. Although it is not the coolest running laptop, the core temps respond perfectly to fan speed without nasty differentials, meaning there is good contact and the design works fine.

i went and posted over there. that guys core 0 seems to have the heatsink problem because its the core receiving the least voltage yet its the one getting too hot.
other than that max difference was 15c and the temps could most likely be improved with LM/other paste

i did however like that the guy noted the screen had no problems unlike those IPS panels in the 15/17 with horrible light bleed

is that possible with a 1060? or hes prbly not running it at ultra

Yeah, such demonstrative tantrums being thrown over at Reddit.

The Tjunction limit per core is 100C. While the prevailing understanding is that the farther you are away from Tmax the longer your CPU will last (and this is generally true) - we are talking about extending life of a chip well beyond what the average user will ever need. This kind of thermal analysis is something we obsess over with satellites I work on because we are looking for 10-15 year mission lives. With a laptop you will have maybe 3-5 years max; riding on a thermal design close to tmax at the package level will generally be just fine over that shorter timeline. But even with that, your duty cycle at that Tmax will never come close to what you see for satellite operational use. I'm betting the average gamer, playing 3 hours a day over the course of a year, is still a relatively very low duty cycle at Tmax in the worst case.

So I do think the 3 screw design isn't optimal for manufacturing purposes - too easy for an assembler to mess up. But I think the real issue is overapplication of bad thermal paste - these guys trying to pump these laptops out don't have the time to take 15-30 minutes to evenly apply high grade paste to these devices. They just slather it on and hope the pressure of the heatsink smooths it out. But I'm only speculating here.

Regardless, these chips really try to protect themselves - so minor throttling one one core at Tmax, likely only has a minor impact on overall performance. Since the GPU stays in the 80s, and that has the largest impact on FPS, one freaking Core throttling is nothing to cry a river over. SO many posters "over there" talking about how "unsafe" this as if these laptops will literally melt in your lap like a Galaxy Note 7!

OLED will not have light bleed because there is no backlight in the panel. Each pixel in an OLED panel is its own light source, thus no need for a backlight like a typical LCD panel.

    http://www.notebookcheck.net/MSI-GS43VR-6RE-Phantom-Pro-Notebook-Review.172721.0.html

14 inch gets 76c-82c between the 4 cores doing P95 while the AW 13 gets 66c-92c so imo the cooling is pretty good if the heatsing is seated correctly

ah yeah i forgot sorry just was really happy i shouldnt have to worry about getting a defective screen

does the oled 13 have the tobi sensor? for preventing burn in

i was under the impression i would have to run the more intense games at 1080p if i wanted 60fps/ultra.
if i can run native that will be great!

I prefer running native resolution and dropping down the IQ settings if necessary to get framerate above 60fps. I can't even generally tell the difference between Med/HIGH and Ultra most of the time anyways. In some cases, turning off filters and going for DSR is better as well. Witcher 3 runs about 45-50fps on the 1060 at 1440P, so maintaining 60+ requires dropping down some eye candy. BF1 runs pretty well across the board at 1440P.

This is for a desktop 1060, so I don't know how far back the AW13's 1060 will be.
