No as far as I know the AW15 and AW17 requires you to take out the whole main board. There's no need for that on the AW13. Just the plastic cover...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I saw both the tear down on AW13 and AW17 and there's much more work involved with the 17 inch...

Here's the link for a semi teardown. As you can see the cooling is accessible right after the plastic cover is removed as far as I can see...

With the 17 you have to get behind the board to disconnect the fans, this is not the case with the 15 and 13.

Ok, couldn't resist passing on the Alienware 15 R3 for the price I was getting it for, basically the same price that I paid for the Alienware 13 R3.
The Dell Tech did confirm that the heating pipes and sink are the same size (width and height) in the two laptops, just that the heat pipes are routed slightly different and are smaller in overall length than in the 15 or 17. The fan is also of the same size as the 15, he wasn't so sure about the fan size on the 17.

So, though I was keen to keep the 13, the Tech kinda convinced me that there were issues but with the new batches, things have improved. Keeping fingers crossed.

Ok then we agree haha... I thought the aw15 was like the aw17 teardown wise... but yeah then it's definitely easier with the 13 and 15.

Anyways can't wait to get this bad boy! There's always been a trade off with small laptops, now we get it all in one package + good game performance =)

 

Any idea where are these Alienwares being manufactured? Do all of them come from China or are they manufactured in different parts of the world based on model or the region from where order has been placed?

 

All (custom)systems are build in China, default configs might be distributed from more local distribution centers. Since we are talking about the first batch, they probably all come from China.

(Placed the order on the 24th of November, on the Dutch dell website)

Full HD, 8gb ram, 256gb pcie ssd and the 1535 killer card.

dont know who the carries is to the uk bit will be delivered by a company called uk mail coruer eta is 8/16

but had a 15r3 and that was due 21/11 and arrived 16/11

 

I had a chat with a rep earlier and from what she told me, all orders are being shipped from China.

Mine is expected to arrive on 14/12/26 which is mighty worrying as I am flying to Germany on that day. If I were to miss the delivery, well it'd be a right old bummer!

Yeah I don't recommend changing it, you might be lucky (sarcasm) like me and get the order cancelled. I ended up spending 1 hour on the phone yesterday and 1 hour today, no one could tell me why it was cancelled, who cancelled it, and one person even insisted it was cancelled on the 1st of Nov (which is when I ordered). Support is a hot mess, gotta keep your fingers crossed you never need it.

Very sorry that I won't be here sharing results of re-pasting etc. Good luck to you all, sounds like the first ones are finally en route!

 

Yes mine was shipped. Tuesday morning according to the status update. But I also got a text message later on from dell saying it's shipped. So it must really be shipped and not waiting to be moved lol

I ordered 2x OLED 13's. The first on the day of UK release and another on the 24th of November. Both Shipped on Tuesday

My AW 13 changed to shipped on 27th. The UPS Tracking ID still doesn't show any status. Is there any other option to check where my package is?

 

I dont think so it will go live when it lands in your country , then should arrive next day

 

Yes I chose the 2nd top model and upgraded the screen to oled.
Ordered on the 10th. The same morning available. And originally estimated the 25th for delivery but now the 6th.
I unrealistically hope I can get it on the weekend just to get it earlier.

Slightly off topic but does anyone know of a good brand for a 1tb nvme m.2 ssd?

I do like the look of the new sammys but my God, they are expensive. Was thinking of using the 256gb as the boot and just chuck in a 1tb nvme for storage (with the thinking of using that as my main boot drive later on)

Good news. My UPS tracking is now working and I will get it tomorrow or at least on friday Currently it is in the Netherlands and will go to Germany

I will keep you updated about my thoughts of the AW13. I will also do a repaste!

 

Definitely run it for a while to check Temps before repasting
Just to see max Temps would be great for us all.

Shipped. Will receive tomorrow, but won't have time to do anything with it till next week. FedEx listed weight is 4.5kg.

 

If possible, it would be nice if you could make/share some picture while you are disassembling/repasting.

 

Mine has Shipped Also, but I will have to get mine delivered from UK to Spain as I'm there right now. Extra cost + time, I hope its worth it!

Man, you are lucky! Was hoping mine would be here Friday but it is still showing as living china on the 29th.

I won't bother with an unboxing but I will do a review and plenty of benchmarks. I have an razed blade 2015 and a clevo with 6820HQ/1070 that I can use to compare.
