Thx guys! I have e-mailed dell about the v2.0 sleeve. First they said it would fit then they said they would come back to me when I gave them the measurements lol.

In regards to the upgrades I would say no to the ssd as there is far better alternatives and cheaper. But RAM I maxed myself, I will get extended warranty on them and I believe a test on toms hardware a while ago showed no real life differences between oem and aftermarket premium sticks. In fact some oem where even better. Most laptop manufacturers go with Samsung sticks but I'm not sure about AW. I don't believe most ppl are actually going to overclock them either...

    TL;DR get $50 - $200 Cyber Monday discount on your Alienware 13 R3

Guys.. something very exciting in case nobody noticed. I went on the Dell site today just to see if they were offering any specials. To my surprise, they offer a $50 up to $200 instant discount depending on which Alienware 13 R3 model you bought. I called Dell to ask if they would extend this discount to me even though I ordered on 11/4/16. They said if I call back once I get the computer with the reference number he gave me over the phone, they will credit me $200! My expected shipping date is December 2 - 8th I believe.

Anyway, call this number specifically, you want the Sales Return Specialist Queue (they are the only ones who can do price adjustment).
    1-800-624-9897

Act fast, I don't know how long this discount lasts. I assume it is over by Tuesday.

They told me the same, first they offered me 125 off my order, but I told them I was getting 200 off the same config.

Then they gave me this link http://www.dell.com/learn/us/en/19/campaigns/price-match-guarantee

so once dell gives us an invoice we can call get the price difference.

Yes, I spoke to two different people and both said they couldn't do it because from your link:
    What Dell won’t match:
Any limited quantity, deal-of-the-day, flash sales, clearance, closeout, discontinued, “doorbuster,” Black Friday/Cyber Monday (the week before and after Thanksgiving) and Green Monday prices.

I would have simply cancelled and reordered if I could, but I used a coupon while ordering which is now gone :( Otherwise I would have had an amazing deal if I had held on to today.

Interestingly, the rep also said he doesn't understand why it's unclear why I don't have my machine yet and why there is a delay.

Edit 2: Don't try this at home folks, just got an email they cancelled my entire order. There goes a month of waiting lol.

PMF.. just re-order and you'll get $200 off (if you got the top spec model). It's not going to affect your delivery date.

Really looking forward to seeing thermals. That one youtube guy who had it showed 10+ degrees in core temps suggesting the same uneven issue as the 15/17.

    Personally? Not really

I don't have the benefit of your experience I have never been around launch time when buying before always bought when there's been stock.

So they screw up every launch then, well I know now.

You sound like a broken record at this point and I guess I will as well. Again, UK ETAs were screwed up from the start, but I thought someone said earlier that theirs had ship. As for US orders, the ETA for MOST orders on 11/1 was a range of 11/28-12/6... We have just moved into that range.

Outside some of the few unfortunate incidents, the only mistake I think they have made so far was to put it up for sale a month outside of release. Some people are impatient regardless if the expectations are properly set.

Fair point I guess your right.

Probably had to put them up for order for commercial reasons so not to lose too many orders this close to the holidays to competitors.

I'm impatient so apologies if I pissed u off..... I'll go quietly now

Well mine shows a Walsh western tracking number but when you click the link it goes to a blank page so I do not think mine has actually been shipped yet :( when ever this has happened in the past I would check a day later and the blank page would start working (I guess they put the tracking number before syncreon pick it up and then once syncron have scanned receipt it would start updating). So my guess is that it is still sat in Dells warehouse or they have given me a tracking number in error :(

    Hey guys,

New to the forum and an old Alienware user. Currently have a 2011 Alienware M14x R1, which has been going strong for the past almost 6 years now though it has recently started overheating and I am planning to do a thermal re-paste using Gelid GC Extreme.

Placed an order for the new Alienware 13R3 yesterday for a total price of £2122.22 in the UK (inclusive of VAT and delivery and a 17" backpack).
    Specs are:
    i76700hq, 32gb 2400 MHz RAM, 1TB PCIe SSD, Killer 1535, non-OLED screen, 3 years premium warranty, Windows 10 HE.

Hope that it ends up serving as well or better as my old Alienware. Fingers crossed and awaiting delivery.

Btw, if anybody didn't notice, last night for a an hour, the Alienware 15R3 (top-spec) was being offered with a £300 off and an additional 12% off...worked till midnight :D

My order (via Dell NL) is in production as of this morning, I already got a UPS tracking number \o/

Does anyone know a good alternative source for the vindicator back packs in Europe? Dell in the Netherlands charges 120 euro for them as opposed to 60 dollar in the US... I contacted the US helpdesk via chat they said I can't order from Dell US unfortunately :(

Guys, quick help...still getting the Alienware 15 R3 for £2130...top spec with 32gb RAM and 3 years premium warranty. Should I cancel my Alienware 13 R3 and order the Alienware 15 R3 or stick with Alienware 13 R3?

    Please respond quick.

Mine went into production yesterday so I'm happy and believe it went quick! As for the backpack or sleeve, I've checked and you need a aw15 case or above as even the 14 inch cases won't fit the 13 r3...

If the weight doesn't bother you the A15 seems to be the best choice considering the additional horsepower. Do note that there are serious overheating issues with the 6820HK on stock clocks. If you Alienware hasn't solved these problems yet and if you don't want to repaste your unit you might want to stick with the 13.

Thank you for your revert. I don't mind the weight but then the fears of the AW15 with its set of issues was what kept me at bay till now.
This might be a noob question but though the overall cooling design of the AW13 and AW15 is the same, are the heat sinks and heat pipes also the same size or does the AW13 have smaller heat sinks and heat pipes?

Based on the various threads on the 17 and 15 on this forum I can conclude that the overheating is based on a combination of the following:
    - Paste, the factory thermal paste is rubbish and also applied to thickly. Repasting the unit with better paste can drastically decrease the cpu heat.
    - Heatsink pressure the cpu heatsink is attached with 3 screws causing uneven pressure which results in core temperature difference. The heatsink might also be a little bit warped which increases the core temp difference.
    - Bios voltages, it seems that the stock voltages are too high. Undervolting the chip seems to be mandatory.
    - Bios rivision, the first bios rivision(s) correctly register the temparatures, this should have been fixed
    - Thermal lottery, no cpu is equal, some perform better, some perform worse. This is just a matter of luck.

While the cooling solution of the 13 R3 seems to be similar to the 15 R3 this doesn't mean that the the 13 should suffer from the same issues. The first batch of 13s just went into production and Alienware/Dell might learned a think or 2 from the issues with the 15. They might have tweaked the design a bit.

Thank you for the revert. I agree with what you have said and the rationale behind that query for the sizes of the heat sink and pipes was that if the thermal conductors (heat sink and pipes) are the same size (in diameter but smaller in length) in the smaller AW13 as in AW15, then the distance through which that heat needs to be carried is much smaller, which should ideally result in a better performance. However, if the heat sink and the pipes are themselves smaller then it won't matter unless the design itself has been tweaked.

Hello people, I have been planning to buy a big old Clevo P870DM3 with 6700K and dual 1080SLI but then a deal came through on one of the camera lenses I have been eyeing for a while and had to change my plans. I ordered this configuration last night, i7-6700HQ / 32GB DDR4 / GTX 1060 6GB /512GB SSD /OLED 1440p display. Total cost came about £2, 049 but with their cyber Monday promotion, it fell to £1760! It was one heck of a deal and I couldn't resist :D

I think that lovely OLED display (& 32GB DDR4) will really help my D810/105 1.4G files! Expected delivery date is 14/12/16.

I really hope they tweaked the design, they probably wont change the paste but they might have improve the pressure on the heatsink.

Edit: Also, it's mainly the 6820HK option that suffers from these issues. My 15 reached 75+ temps on idle and reached a maximum of 99 degrees while gaming causing insane throttling and forced shutdowns which was my main reason for returning the unit.

yeah, me too...still debating what I should do...

Btw, I see from your signature that you had initially gotten an AW15 but returned it and now awaiting your AW13? Was that because of the heating issues again or the other known issues like light bleed etc?

Overheating was the main issue. It also despised the 4k panel, colors are flat, contrast is lacking and panel suffers from lightbleeding. The 4k panel in the A15 R1 is much better.
The 15 is also a bit too heavy for my taste and the larger footprint doesn't fit my bag.

Also the AW13 is much easier to repaste! Even for a person who never opened a computer it will be done in less than 30 minutes, for a repaste pro 10-15 minutes...

When it comes to the heat sink/pipe solution you will get a more even press after redoing the paste and double check the pressure yourself...

Well I got one year premium warranty plus accidental damage. I will try to extend warranty again at the end of present warranty period as right now I couldn't really afford any more than that.

Repasting shouldn't be much different from the 15, the only difference is that you have to disconnect the side lighting.
