No current SSD will work in any of those miniPCIe slots. They only work in a few netbooks due to netbooks having a special I/O controller connected to the miniPCIe slot to read the storage device. Samsung is supposed to be releasing a SSD w/ built in I/O controller for miniPCIe but I have yet to see it in retail.

I can also confirm wireless cards working there, I once put a DW1390 card in that slot on my D620 and it worked fine.

I don't think SSD card will fit the slot tbh. It's much longer then full profile wifi adapter.

Refer to mini pci-e pinout. Can visually inspect the socket to see if there are tracks attached to the following pins:

    WWAN: 38/36: USB pins
    mPCIe: 23/25/31/33: pci-e TX/RX pins

A WWAN slot tends to use only the USB pins. Note too that if the mPCIe pins are attached, you won't be able to use a netbook type mPCIe SSD. You'd need the Samsung mPCIe SSD with onboard sata controller.

A DIY ViDock is a good use of the a mPCIe slot for gaming :)
