German Price Starting: 949 Euros = $1343 USD
US Price Starting: 1235 Euros (Converted at 0.7064 Euros per Dollar) = $1749 USD

How the hell does that make sense? Isn't the US market supposed to have the cheapest prices?

It's a $400 USD differential in base price.

There is a 19% VAT in Germany plus no free shipping on the E4300/E4200.

    The base E4300 is 949 Euros plus 19% VAT plus shipping, this comes to 1206 Euros. 1206 x 1.42 = ~ $1,710 @ today's conversion rate.

The base E4300 in the USA is $1,749 with free shipping. The sales tax is 6% where I live so the total is about $1,850. if you live in Oregon no sales tax.

I didn't even compare the two builds either. So there isnt that much price difference.

Dell knew the E4200/E4300 was going to be hot so charge the early suckers/buyers who have deep pockets through the snoot.

There are no instant savings for the E4200/E4300 either. Wait a month. Or better yet wait 4 months until they start showing up at the Dell Outlet.

Usually you Americans get the best deals on laptops, but this pricing strategy by Dell will only shoot themselves in the foot. Dell has been dropping the lately.

It's true though the prices in Europe are relatively lower.

Apple and Sony use a 1:1 ratio. Meaning the cheapest Vaio Z costs 1600 US$ and costs 1600 euros. Same goes for Apple.

Dell used to do the same, but somehow now prices on E4300 and E4200 are relatively hogher in the US.

The base model E4300 in Europe is cheaper than cheapest Sony Z. In US the base E4300 is more expensive than the cheapest Z.

have you ever tried to buy a laptop in a european country?

like said above, sony and apple have a 1:1 ratio and other companies are similar in european countries....so $1799 here....is $1799 euro there, which is: $2554.50 US

usually the US is Def cheaper than other countries....almost aways

Shipping it outside EU (like US) will refund you VAT, so that shouldn't be taken into account.

i am rarely snarky in my posts, but there are continents other than N.A. and Europe. in any case, back to the OP's question - i have found Dell prices in Malaysia and Hong Kong (sometimes Taiwan) to be lower than the US quite consistently. this is especially true for consumer lines like XPS / Studio.
