I'm just going to pick an e6400, but kinda struggle for the choice of screen resolution.
High resolution may have greater performance but everything seem to be so small, also keeps the higher price. I've never used high resolution screens like that so I need ur opinions. Thanks!

I had the exact same fear as you when I got mine.

Experience varies a lot from one person to the next. I came used to very large icons and text, since I used a 1024x768 13-inch screen before my E6400. It took me about a week (maybe 10 days) to get used to the 1440x900 resolution, but now I really like the extra screen space and crispness of images and fonts.

In any case, if you have trouble adjusting, Vista has font and icon scaling built-in which makes up for the smaller resolution quite well. I use no scaling, I have heard one or two people here at NBR say they make the fonts a bit larger (10-20%) and I even know a person here at work who makes them smaller by 30%! So it really is up to you, but remember that Vista can scale things up and down rather nicely. XP is considerably worse at this, if you plan to use it be more careful.

Unless your eyesight is bad, I think you can get the 1440x900. It is worth the extra price.

The 1440x900 is really nice. Looks crisp, and The DPI is just right for me. I also like 13.3" 1280x800, but probably couldn't work with 15.4 1920x1080 for extended periods of time, to put my preferences into perspective.

I find 1680x1024 (I believe that's the resolution) on a 15.4 inch screen a bit too small, and I think that 1440x900 on a 14.1 inch is ideal. It is just slightly smaller text than 1280x800 on a 13.3 inch.

I like 1680x1050 on 15.4",but as they're becoming rarer,1440x900 is the next best for me......had one 1920x1200 15'4" notebook but was a bit too much for my eye's....was fine on 17" though.

    I'm going to say 1280 x 800 on anything 13 and under, 1440 x 900 on 14, 1680 x 1050 on 15, and 1920 x 1200 on anything 17 and up. From personal experience I think 1280 x 800 on 14 is too big and 1920 x 1200 on 15 is too small.

12.1" here with 1280x800. Wouldn't want to go any smaller. Seems to provide a good chunk of screen real estate, so I'm happy.

I run 1920x1200 on my desktop and have 1440x900 on my M4400. I like 1440x on the laptop, but wouldn't hesitate getting higher resolution on my next laptop. I had 1280x800 on my old laptop, much prefer 1440x over 1280x.

Here's a website that helps you figure out the dots per inch (DPI) of any screen at any resolution.

For example, 1440x900 on a 14.1 inch screen is 120 DPI, which I find very pleasant. I think that anywhere from 100 to 130 DPI is good (from my experience, your eyes are different so you will have a different opinion).

Another example: 1920x1200 on a 15.1 inch screen is 147 DPI, too much for my taste.
