    Correct. The 7200.2 exists in 160 and 200GB, while the 7200.3 does exist in 160GB but not in 200GB.

    I would guess Dell to use latest generation drives where ever possible.

    Very true. Best thing is to buy the cheapest from Dell and then upgrade it yourself. It's cheaper and you know you get the fastest hard drive available.

    Is there any special recommendation for a large, fast, quiet and cool drive you could fit into an E6500?

    Generation. 7200.3 is the latest and has better performance and power efficiency.

    I didn't realize when the lady at Dell gave me an upgrade to 250GB (7200+FFS)...is this density/speed combo bad?

    7200rpm 250GB should be a good performer and the free fall sensor is a useful bonus.
