Weird, the US page says 6 GB max for the 3550 spec page. Maybe just a typo on the US page.

Whatever Dell says it is not true. As someone has already said, the maximum amount of RAM is set by the chipset and HM67 supports up to 8GB, so I'm sure it will support it and I will get myself another 4GB stick to boost my upcoming Vostro 3550 to the maximum of 8GB.

Can anyone actually confirm for the rest of us to know: Did you get a Dell Vostro 3550 to work with 8GB RAM? E.g. buy 4GB in one slot add 4GB into empty slot?

I'm considering buying one, but I'm afraid it might be that in a US 3550 Dell soldered in 2GB for whatever reason, and there is only one slot. So I'd like to know if you succeeded.

Specifically I am worried because 3550 manual only says "removing the memory module" in singular while the older 3500 manual says "removing the memory module(s)" in plural. Also in the older 3500 manual photo I clearly see two memory slots, while with the newer 3550 manual I can only guess the thing below is another stick, but can't tell for sure.

    See 3550 http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/vos3550/en/SM/GUID-A24C24C5-06DC-4DF5-BBDC-9C3D2C8AC705.html versus older 3500 http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/vos3500/en/SM/Memory.htm.

Please let us know whether it worked for you.

I've ordered 2x4gb Crucial RAM, specifically the following:
    4GB DDR3 - 1333 (PC3 10600) SODIMM 1.35V 204 PIN

Crucial's website said it would be compatible with my notebook, so I ordered it there and it seems to work after 10mins of testing ;-)

Good luck everyone with your 3550. It's a great notebook, except that it's glowingly hot when I play a game.
