    Hi,

Is it possible to get vostro with 8gb RAM? the specs say it's only 6gb, when I try to customize it only let me 6gb also.
Then I go to Accesories- Memory and there's no RAM for Vostro 3550.

If I get the 1x4096 RAM Vostro 3550, can I buy another 4GB somewhere and add it by myself?

    Thanks

This Dell web page says up to 8GB (which is what I would expect for the CPU / chipset). The RAM is standard 1333MHz DDR3 SODIMM so you can buy it elsewhere.

As stated above, yes the Vostro 3550 will do 8 GB. You can get it configured with 1 x 4 GB and add your own 4 GB stick after.

That memory will be fine. All recent notebooks with Intel chips are very tolerant of the RAM specifications and will give close to dual channel performance even if you have two different sized modules.

I just called Dell support and they told me that 3500 ram memory is not compatible with 3550, they told me to wait until is available on the website.
I also think that it should be the same, because they are both dd3 and 1333 MHz - Non-ECC.

    What do you think?

Well the picture is wrong (shows a DDR2 module)

But the RAM from a 3500 will work in a 3550. You probably won't get the fastest speeds but it will POST and work.

HM67 chipset will support 8 GB max. Dell may only offer up to 6 GB.
