I have been holding this issue for some time until recently BSoD happened twice playing WoW, funny it was ok playing games like call of duty 4. the temps are hitting 90-95 C range under gaming and the video card was not over clocked. it certainly cant be normal, but is it very alarming?

Are you using the notebook on your lap (or another soft surface) or on a table (or notebook cooler)?

If it was on your lap, you shouldn't use it on your lap without being very careful to keep the fan clear.

If it was on a table, call up Dell cos it aint normal to run that hot.

    Best of luck :)

my GPU temps are as follows:

    idle 59 C
    working up to 75 C
    gaming 90 - 100+???

I'm not sure if this is normal (despite the fact that i'm in a tropical country right now)

Anyone there have the same readings for Vostro 1400?

That is way hotter than what it should be, it definitely shouldn't be over 80C at full load. Call up Dell and have them fix it.

Those readings are FAR too high, with intense gaming you should see in the 80s maximum. I recommend you contact Dell immediatly. Or first try some tips from cooling central.

I'm having the same problems. I'm idling at around 60C and when I am gaming, it goes up to about 90C on my Vostro 1400. I also use an Antec Notebook Cooler with it and it doesn't seem to really be helping at all. I've also set the setting to "Force fans to high speed" through the program, I8kfanGUI that I'm using.

I think I am going to call up Dell very soon as my warranty expires in about three weeks.

well i have a vostro 1310 which is a bit smaller then the Vostro 1400 not sure if the vostro 1310 vs the 1400 heat pipe design because on the vostro 1310 the heat pipe is shared by the cpu so the temperature on my 8400M GS is 98C when i ran ATI Tool Artifact scanning, i was a bit shocked to see it at 98C because i planned to oc it a bit to increase ingame performance but i guess that was not possible. I called up dell tech support to ask them about the high temp and they said that it was normal for the vostro 1310 because it was sharing a Heat pipe and fan with the CPU.

if you're using windows vista, try updating your vid adapter driver with the one that's recommended by windows update. it kinda gave me lower readings (idle at 40 C something HWmonitor). I think its related to that news about nvidia's defective 8-series notebook GPUs (try googling it up i forgot the link)
