The 1310 uses a thermal pad.

Does the 1400 have a heat sync for the GPU? I've been inside mine and never found one.

Search for the XPS Copper Mod and follow those directions, they will work for the 1310

    14mm x 14mm x 1.5 copper plate.

    Same as the XPS size.

    Arctic Silver + Copper

well i did the copper mod about 2 months ago i bought 1.6mm copper plate had to do alot of sanding to get it down to 1.5 before it would work properly at 1.6mm it was elevating the cpu cooling side so the cpu was running hot. But after it was done got about 80C using ati tool artifact scan. If anyone wants to buy my 1.6mm copper sheet for there own cutting and such pm me

You guys, the XPS M1310 cooper mod DOES NOT apply to the Vostro 1310!!!

I tested it myself and couldn't get the 1,5mm thick copper shim (recommended in the copper mod tutorial and suggested here for use with the Vostro 1310) to fit. It elevates the CPU conctat area of the heatsink by one side (so less then half of the heatsink surface touches the CPU die) and completely elliminates contact between the chipset and it's heatsink contact area. Just doesn't work, sadly.

So I'm looking for people who have successfully applied the copper mod to the Vostro 1310 and perhaps tell me something new.

    Was it neccesary though?

My GPU maxxes out at 85 degrees C playing COD4 or WoW all night, tested using HWMonitor and Riva Tuner. Not exactly overheating when playing games all night IMO. (Noting that I use a Zalman NC1000 when gaming and I live in the tropics....)

Far better investment would be to get a decent laptop cooler when gaming/running the GPU flat out  Better for your warranty as well :p lol

Oh jesus, i dind´t read the forum again, and now, after 8 months, I look after the cooper mod. If are interest in my experience, I used Artic Silver 5 in the CPU, and use 1 copper cent (full lapped) on every chipset (Video and Northbridge) using common paste. The Heat goes down on the touch, but Speedfan reports almos the same temperature. I'm gonna look the pressure points of every part, to ensure optimal contact.

    Regards
