i get your point. but im still curious and it dosent really answer my question.

do you think dell would pull the plug on the quad options after putting it in their marketing materials? i really dont know.

im wondering if its gonna be a situation where all the internals are different but the casing looks the same. much like the difference between an inspiron 8500 and 8600, the former is a p4m system the latter is a pentium M system, but exterior wise they look identical.

any confirmation on if the particular quad processor they listed in their materials has the same socket as the dual cores? ie t9600 etc

    thanks...just curious

Yes, it has the same socket, probably same pin-out.
The Q9100 and the QX9300 have a 45W TDP, but all processors can be undervolted. I also had a 45W TDP CPU in a 14"er, no problems.
Main thing --> BIOS Support (?!)

I have seen them as options on most notebooks, don't know if they use a completely different motherboard for the mobile quads.

I think the marketing materials are meaningless. They put a lot of stuff in there but things change when it comes to the release and every country ends up with a different set of options.

if they have it as an option in their catalog im sure the bios supports it. i think the only question left is the cooling. i wonder if they use different cooling for the quad. seems unlikely given that it has the same TDP as the 9100

Um, you guys are incorrect. Dell does offer the Quad core in the M4400. It is a configurable option. You can not use ddr3 with the M4400 though even though the chip set does support it due to Dell using DDR2 slots. I think Dell offers DDR3 in a 17inch laptop. Lenovo offers it in the T500 15 in laptop. I am still getting a M4400 even though it uses DDR2 because the gains are small, and I like the other features on the Dell better.

Um, that just came out. At the time we were talking it wasn't an option.
