    Hi

wondering if its possible to upgrade the t9600 to a qx9300 in the future (when its price drops:p)

also does the board support DDR3? dell does not offer DDR3 with the laptop, but does the chipset/bios support it?

    thanks:)

no,cos it will exceed thermal budget!

    Hope this helped!

The board supports DDR3, but the slots are for DDR2 only. Can't really blame them, DDR2-800 is cheaper than DDR3, which has a minimal performance effect.

i assume you're referring to the quad core upgrade instead of the DDR3?

why would it exceed the thermal budget? its one of the options from dell, just not available yet....

    am i right?

This isn't going to happen...my understanding is the quad core is going to require a different pin out, specifically to prevent upgrades like this where the cooling system might not be capable.

so does the quad core m4400 have a different cooling system?

the reason i asked in the first place is cos i was wondering, do they use a different mobo if you choose the quad option..

I didn't think that there was a quad option for the M4400... only the M6400 - and that isn't out yet.

could have sworn i read that the m4400 uses one quad core cpu where else the m6400 uses two dual cores.

i'll try and find the info.

The m4400 offers xtreme overclockable cpus, not quad cores. The option is not out yet, and probably wont be because of the amount of heat it would produce in a 15" computer.

My dual core heats up when its stressed as it is, and quad core will probably not be any smarter. The only thing I can think of to upgrade on the m4400 is the GPU, which is pretty lacking in terms of gaming. I doubt you'll notice performance enhancements on a quad core and dd3 memory, because this thing is pretty f-ing fast as is.
