This is just a guess on my part, but Dell likely outsources their support somewhere and the level 1 guys for the general help stuff are likely:
    - Judged based on metrics such as number of cases resolved
    - Have to read from some script
    - Aren't necessarily that knowledgeable.

Now, when I had to deal with the parts department, the experience was rather smooth. They didn't have the part I wanted at first, was told it should be available in a couple of weeks, called back later and it was.

Also had to deal with business support and those guys were on point, actually called consumer support, they redirected me to business support and everything was smooth sailing from then on.

Support in French (Canada) was also surprisingly good. So now, I avoid consumer English support for Canada and I get redirected to people I can easily understand and have a minimum understanding of what I'm talking about.

Anyways, that chat support link to the parts department will likely work better than general support chat. There are actually numbers to every department, the only issue is that the phones#/chat links aren't readily available like the generic support ones.

Totally agree with this one. Maybe we should do a tacked thread with the known direct chat or call lines?

And just to add a little bit, I would recommend people to get service via their chat lines. Its less frustrating and there is an actual record of your discussion.

Side note, if you don't like chat, you can call through Skype and record the whole thing. You have to tell them you're recording, but you can also have a record that way.

Just an update, I just paid for my spare battery which should arrive somewhere next week, so that's all good. I do have to say that Dell's support is easily the worst I have encountered when it comes to laptops/computers. I have had ASUS, Acer, HP, Sony, Samsung and Apple, but nothing comes close to the extremely hard time I have had getting the right person at Dell or even getting to talk to someone at all.

It might not be like that elsewhere in the world, but in the Netherlands there are a multitude of numbers that link to Dell support and none clearly explain which department or what particular case they are for. Then there's the fact that as a normal consumer, you can't call at all. You can only chat and mail. While some may prefer that, I like to talk to someone over the phone.

But oh well...as long as this precision keeps performing as good as it has been, I'll be happy.

Can you confirm that you were able to update the small battery to the big battery? I think I may choose a similar path and would love any feedback, part numbers or pictures you have regarding the batteries.

Yes, I can confirm it! The upgrade was painless. As long as you have the right tools (screwdrivers), everything should be fine.

Unfortunately I do not have a part number right now, but if you contact Dell, they'll be able to help you. That's how I got mine.

As for feedback, just make sure you keep the screws safe and be careful when unplugging the battery that you are replacing. There really isn't much to it.

    Good luck!
