    Hi everyone,

As I am looking for a workstation-like notebook, I'm buying a used, but as new, 5510 tommorow. What I am worried about however, is the fact that it comes with a 56Wh battery. The main specs are:

    Intel Xeon 1505
    32GB RAM
    512GB SSD
    UHD display

How long will it last on a full charge? It will be used mainly for software engineering and office, as well as some entertainment. And my main question: is it possible to upgrade the battery (since I don't have an additional HDD) to the 84Wh battery. And if so, where can I get one? I was unable to find anything on Dell's website unfortunately.

    Many thanks in advance!

You can upgrade the battery. You have to remove the bottom cover of the system to get to the battery but it is not too hard. You will need a tiny torx screwdriver (T5 I think). The 5510 manual has directions, you can find it at support.dell.com.

As for actually getting a battery, I don't think Dell sells them separately on the web site. You can try contacting the Dell spare parts line (877-372-3355 in the U.S.), or look on eBay.

First off all, thank you for your response!

I'm happy to hear that it is possible. Unfortunately, I do not live in the US, but I will call Dell Support here in the Netherlands tommorow. I will also check on eBay.

How long do you think the current battery will last?

And while I know that it is off topic, do you think it's worth it to replace the SSD with a 950 Pro?

What about a Dell power companion or whatever it's called?

I do not have an estimate for the battery, I do not have any 5510's with the low capacity battery.
As for the SSD, depends which one you have in your system. Samsung PM951 and SM951 are common, SM951 is faster and my understanding it that it is pretty much on par with the 950 Pro, so no need to upgrade if that's the one that you have. In any case, depends on your workload, likely won't notice any practical difference once your system is booted unless you are doing lots of I/O.

The Dell Power Companion is a viable option, though I would prefer the larger battery. If that turns out to be impossible, then I will definitely looking into the companion.

I think this system has a PM951. I will use it as is a few days to see if its fast enough. It probably will be. In my custom desktop rig I use a 850 Evo and its plenty fast for me.

Dell has the upgrade battery for sell, you just need to find the right supporting person.
PM951 should be enough, I am using 950 pro, won't feel big difference for regular use.

Good to hear. I am having a heck of a time getting even a response from Dell here. It cannot be that hard to find a battery, right?

You'd be surprised. If you get to the right department, usually it goes smoothly, also helps if you have the Dell part #, that's how I got a heatsink for the M6700 and if I can get that, getting the battery should be fine. Try to get a hold of the department that sells replacement parts and if someone on the forum could post the battery part #, that would also help you.

@tijo Yeah, but we can't choose which department we end up contacting, unfortunately. Best we can do is to call the number they've given us. Recently I'm begin to think that phone support is a deflector shield more than it is customer support. Makes me want to hang up as soon as I call. They are not super helpful on the phone. Mission accomplished Dell? Seriously though, as a dell fanatic (I say that, I'm not just trash talking), I use chat as it is more useful in my experience. Yes/No binary in a chat, which is what I need. "fix it? got the part? No?.. okay [patiently wait] ugh.... look harder! Do your job, don't make me do it.". I'm venting a bit. I don't know which method OP used but I suspect it was phone.
