probably best to get it swapped. sounds like a loose/faulty LCD cable.

the LCD cable is integrated into the LCD back panel so it will require a back panel swap i reckon.

best to just get them to replace the whole unit/return it

I had exactly the same problem in my old Amilo. The problem was caused by the inverter that stopped working. (Inverters in CCFL screens provide the luminosity, follow this lonk for more http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CCFL_inverter )

What is caracteristic of such a problem is that if you pay very close attention to the screen you can barely see that the screen is actually working but everything is extremely dark. (Imagine looking your screen in lowest luminosity while wearing 4-5 pairs of extremely dark sunglasses in order to get the impression).

A simple thing he can do in order to understand if this is the problem is to ask him to connect the PC to an external monitor. If all is ok then this could very well be the case. If not, you might have a bad Gfx card.

    Hope this helps.

no,I don't think that it is the same problem, since screen is good, and only lasted a couple of seconds...I guess it is the cable

EDIT:yes Thomas,I think the same!I ll try contacting dell ccare and see if i can fix that myself!

I also just got my M4400 refurb. Love the RGB-LED screen - beautiful colors, and they seem fairly accurate in Firefox 3 with an argb color profile loaded. Only downside to the screen is a fairly narrow vertical viewing angle. Along with the Sony VAIO Z and TT series, it has the best non-IPS notebook screen I've ever used, and is the first one I actually prefer to my Thinkpad IPS screen (which suffers from a backlight about to burn out).

The Samsung SSD is also really fast and silent - a reboot in XP takes about 30 seconds. Only issue I've noticed so far is that the fan makes a loud grinding noise when it spins down. I figure I'll see if it gets better and get a replacement fan if it doesn't - has anyone else had that issue?

hey man, i know you're anxious about the issue, but dont cross post!

dell has an international warranty covering 90 countries. check and see if the country you intend to get service in is covered.
