I am assuming that the new line will be the F series, judging by how they change the entire design every two years.

Can anyone speculate on the DESIGN on the new line? In terms of the big picture. Will Dell keep using the roundy shell design prevalent from Inspirons to all current Latitude models? Or will they bring back the boxy business cut design?

I have been waiting too long to purchase something because the industry has shifted to the more "roundy" design (And I have a major problem with that).

I wouldn't bet on an F-series with the Haswell latitudes, rather than an E6440/E6540 -- the industry is pushing ultrabooks hard, and pushing more engineering resources than that as opposed to a wholesale redesign of the boring and lower-margin (but high volume) mainstream business notebooks.

They might also change branding entirely; "F" only works with positive connotations if it's a Ford truck.

    Should know this summer.

Do they usually release the designs during the summer? Or will we know if they will continue the E series or not?

I guess I don't care what they call. After all there was a major design change within the E series. I just wanted to see if anyone knew about design speculation. Which I am quiet certain they are in the middle of some kind of testing.

The timing of summer vs. winter/spring is an Intel thing, not Dell -- Dell usually pre-announces the business laptops when Intel takes the wraps off the chips that are going into them. That's been slightly later with the past couple of generations -- and for Haswell, that has been pushed from April to June. The actual availability of consumer models usually follows pretty closely, while the Latitudes usually wait a month or two before the formal announcement/order.

I haven't seen any credible speculation on the net Latitudes, nor have I seen ANY speculation on interesting things for the next generation from any manufacturer outside of the Ultrabook/convertible tablet space. Lots of discussion of Haswell ultrabooks, but I suspect that the larger machines are getting a lot less attention.

Yep, Ultrabooks are big so I too suspect that they'll take the limelight. Dell's hinted at that with the XPS 13. It's marketed both to business and consumer. Of course, maybe that was a temporary measure until Latitude 6430U came out.

Unofficial rumor from a contact at Dell -- take this with a grain of salt, as none of this has been announced and he has passed on incorrect stuff before, but:
    * E series naming continues
    * Mainstream sizes continue as the E6x40, although mum on exact models/details or whether there are any form factor changes
    * New Ultrabook series as E7x00

    Nothing technical to share, unfortunately.

This makes sense, given the Ford thing...I doubt they'd be keen to have their bread and butter brand "borrowed" even in a modified manner.

Then again, the E-Series is a Ford brand family as well so...

I see a lot of small changes. Overall it's more restrained design wise from the earlier E6x20 and E6x30 systems. Lid definitely looks like a nod to Dx20/30.

Looks good though. EliteBook or ThinkPad likely wins in the style department but a business notebook isn't about style.

Did your contact give you any hints at the E6540 release date? I need a notebook by the end of July and was hoping for a Haswell based 15" E series. All the public rumors concentrate on the Ultrabook 7 series.
