Yea thats what I figured but only things I can think of are processor or mobo... both which kind of suck.

Hard for me to believe the processor would be dead so soon, so that leaves replacing the mobo.. wonder if i can find a cheapish one on ebay

Hey, that way you can get a D630 mobo, upgrade the BIOS, get two 4GB sticks, and voila....you have 8GB of RAM in your machine!

    Several problems with that:

    1. D630 only supports up to 4GB memory. M2300 supports 8GB.

    2. Port locations in D630 are different and you'll need to get a new base and palmrest.

    3. D630 motherbard costs more.

    4. Will the processor work?

    Well maybe...Maybe not...

    1) EricD gave his D830 8GB with new A13 BIOS from Dell. Search this forum. Also go to Dell support page, and look for D630 BIOS download. There's a new one called A13 for D630.

    2) D620 and D630 chasis is the same. Even the (external) ports are the same. Search for D630 pics on eBay.

    3) While you're at it on eBay, look for the ~$150 D630 mobo + casing (no LCD, CPU, RAM, HDD, optical)

    4) Why not?

    1. I'm quoting Dell's official specs. Better to be on the safe side. ;)

    2. They appear to be the same, but upon closer examination, you'll realize that you cannot swap some parts between the two. The lock has been moved, 1394 was added, and the USB ports on the right side have been tweaked so the top port is actually usable now.

    3. I found it, and that sounds too good to be true. Something must be up...

    4. I'm no expert when it comes to processors. I've heard that you cannot put a D630's processor into a D620, so I don't know if it's the same the other way around.

I've swapped quite a few. All you need to do is beyond the hardware part is to reset and reconfigure the BIOS, and change the service tag using Dell's asset tag tool.

Yes, I suppose to be on the safe side, you should get a D620 mobo instead. But, back on the topic, you should call Dell tech and make sure it's the motherboard instead of something else.

sadly the unit does not have warranty so im kinda hosed on that end. And now to my knowledge on ebay these mobos are kinda pricey from what it seems.

Not sure what to do, hate to replace it and it not be the problem. Maybe ill go buy another and get luckier or buy a **** m1330 ha

The unit should still be in warranty. Latitudes come standard with a 3-year warranty.

Go to http://support.dell.com, select Warranty Status, and enter in your servcie tag.
