I was just a little freaked out because I the Intel Core 2 Duo sticker didn't want to turn loose at all! I could just see the whole palm rest coming loose or something....

But, happily, the Vista Basic sticker came off with little effort and the Intel C2D wasn't too difficult to get off using only my fingers and fingernail! Unfortunately, it left at least half of the adhesive backing stuck to the palm rest (and for once, I'm out of "Goo Gone!") but some rubbing alcohol, elbow grease and a terry cloth took care of it! Looks MUCH nicer now without those...very clean, I like it! ;) :D

When i changed my palm rest I tried it on the old palm rest while the technician was installing the new one (he allowed me), and it did a big mess. I used Alcohol to remove the residue, and ti destroyed the plastic. I tried cooking oil but that did nothing. Of course I didn't have hours to play with it.. but rubbing alcohol is out of the question if you try it. I used 70% rubbing alcohol.

I like certain stickers, but I got rid of the Windows Vista and Core 2 Duo stickers. I replaced them with ATi Radeon and Centrino 2.

Try using a hair-dryer to heat up the sticker; then peel it off. It works on cars... :D

That's funny, because I did the exact same thing to mine. I peeled mine off, and then used 70% rubbing alcohol. And it came off without so much as a blemish.

How exactly did it "destroy" the plastic? Color?

I have successfully removed the stickers from my E6400 already, but your suggestion could still be very useful! The dealer name/lettering on my almost 4yr old Mazda3 is starting to peel. For some crazy reason, they used individual letters to spell out 'mazda' in their name and the 'z' and last 'a' are curling up and look bad. I think it's time the whole thing came off...now I just need to find a hairdryer.... :D

It'll work like a charm - but keep in mind that you will still have to deal with paint fade around the removed lettering...

I got mine off without a problem. Just with my fingernails I believe, then I used a product called GooGon to remove the residue from the palmrest. You would never know they were there :)
