    Hi there.
I am still working with my M6400.Just wondering if the bios would take a Q9200 Cpu upgrade without problems.
    Any help would be welcome.
    Thanks

    Hi everybody,

    I was going to update my M6400 by adding 4 x 4Gb.
I found these Corsair Vengeance (CMSX4GX3M1A1600C9) sticks at the same price of the standard modules, so I got four.

they are rated 1600Mhz, so I thought they would be stable at 1066..
When I put them into my M6400, it didn't work at all:
    - with the 4 modules, never got into BIOS (various LED messages- RAM, Processor, other)
    - with one or two modules, sometime I went into BIOS and started booting (but everything was very very slow and the OS didn't come up completely).

I tried the same modules on my othe laptop (Lenovo X201, core i5-540), and all was perfectly working.
I am running BIOS A10 on my M6400.
Does anyone has these modules on a M6400?

Dell says that "they didn't sell it, so it is up to you": I understand them, but it is strange that noone ever had the same issue (M6400 and the Corsair brand are sold worldwide...)

    Can you help me?

Did you try to use only two modules? As recommended by Dell - inserted in the slots A-D or B-C.
And leaving the other two slots empty?

I bought four memory modules for my M6600 (DDR3 1600):

I tested two of them on my M6400 (which I still love more than the M6600 :)).
They were identified in the BIOS as DDR3 1066, went through several tests. No problem ...

    Best Regards, Alex.

PS. And sorry for my English...
PPS. I have bios A10 on my M6400 too (latest A11).

Yes, I did try several 2 slot configurations and also single.
Sometimes it started, went through the BIOS, but OS did not finished booting: everything eas slow and unstable.

Dell says these are "gaming" sticks (I am not a gamer , however), but, although I think that gamer stuff used at low speed should be quite stable (at least for booting OS....), that is not a nice answer.

    Thanks

Could a BIOS update fix this?
The latest version available from Dell A12. There is still A11.

    Good luck, Alex.

Just installed the new BIOS and I hope it will solve my ram issue.
I have some work to finish today, so I will try to install the new ram tomorrow.
Last time, to say something more about how unstable it was, I had to hardly recover my OS, because it had been corrupted during the previous (the single Dimm test) boot up.
Nothing serious, no data lost, but very annoying.

    I will post my results.

However I asked Dell tech support about the new BIOSes, but they did not reply, they only said I have improper gaming ram.

    Wish me luck..

    ...no luck...:(
it does not work either with the new BIOS A12.
one or two modules, goes to BIOS (made also onboard diagnostics and passes) but it is unable to finish OS boot (after 5mins I quit - it is enough to boot an M6400 with an SSD, I tought...)
With the 4 modules installed, nothing to do.

I think I will sell these modules and buy the certified ones, or (ASAP) upgrade to a new laptop.

    Ciao

Has anyone tried (successfully) to put 32 GB of RAM into a M6400? I would think that should be possible, but have not found anyone who has done it, and Dell would not tell me if it is possible, and Crucial did not indicate it could be done, or why not.

I have a M6400 Covet with the Quad Core, does this mean I could get the 1333 @ 1.35V module and thus upgrade the M6400 to 32 GB RAM, as opposed to 16 GB Max?
