Are you using Acronis 2009 or 2010? I'm not offering advice or a solution but the 2009 version doesn't work on my Windows 7 install but the 2010 one does. And the 2010 version can't read any of the 2009 backups. But I back up both XP and Windows 7 to an e-sata external drive with the newer version and have no problems with either.

    Howi,

Right-Click on Acronis true image, short-cut and select > Properties on the
Shortcut Tab, Click the Advanced Button and Put a Check in the checkbox
    Run As Administrator.

    Hi Everyone,

I've had my M6400 since late 2008 and have only recently come across issues with it.

Basically, when I got it I was running Vista x64, everything was peachy and I scored somewhere about 11300 points in 3Dmark 06.

Now, I am running Windows 7 x64, and up until recently had no issues, however upon running a benchmark to identify the source of my problems, I scored a paltry 3700 points in 3Dmark 06.

I've tried every driver under the sun, reformatted, etc and still had no joy. That was until I propped the machine up on some small blocks to allow a lot of airflow under it, and re-benchmarked. The score this time: 9300 points.

So its better, but not where it should be. Today isnt a particularly warm day, the machine doesnt feel any hotter than usual, yet here I am with issues.

Is anyone else having problems with their M6400 slowing itself down to deal with the heat it is pumping out? If so, what solutions? Do I just get Dell to start replacing parts until it's all fixed?

Edit- forgot to mention the specs:

    M6400 with Matte RGBLED screen
    QX9300 CPU
    Quadro FX3700M 1GB Graphics
    4GB RAM
    250GB 7200RPM Seagate HDD

Thanks for your reply! I've tried both suggestions but still no joy.. :(

I think I might rebuild the laptop as per how I bought it, ie. a clean install of vista, and if I still get these USB issues, I'll put in a support call.

Good luck with your hard drive issues too!

    Cheers,
    Ben

GrantW, I had over heating issues, kept replacing several parts but none work. Until I found out that if I passed my finger around some parts of the red metal cover, like by the back of the lid and moved around it, I felt like my finger was somewhat stuck to the screen, as if having a current or something (compare the feeling to that of moving it around the front of the computer -same material). When they saw that, they finally replaced it. Is this happening to you?
Now I'm seeing that this is still happening with my new one. Not when moving my finger around the screen cover but just when I run it on batteries and I rub it on the back side of the computer, near the battery... Is this happening to anyone else? Is this normal?
