    Hi there,

    I've run into this post

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/m4800-e-port-ii-docking-station-and-two-monitors.744996/

about the compatibility between laptop and docking station.

It is not explicitly said so I would like to make sure if the laptop Dell Precision M4800 is compatible with the docking station PR02X (which I used with a M4400).

On the bottom of the docking station is written: Input: 19.5V--6.7A/10.8A

    On the M4800 charger: 19.5V--9.23A

    and on the M4400: 19.5V--6.7A

I guess since the current of the M4800 (9.23A) is in the range of 6.7A/10.8A it should be fine, right?

    thanks

I am using an older PR02X with my M4800. I am using the power adapter that came with the M4800. Two external monitors, several USB devices, and Ethernet attached --- everything works fine.

    ok,
everything should be fine but i am always reluctant to combine things which don't come together
may I ask how you work with the two external screens? do you also use the laptop screen?

Yes, two 1080p DVI displays + also the internal 1080p laptop display. So three screens active at once, no issues. A coworker has the same config but his displays are attached via DisplayPort, that's working fine too.

Could I see a picture of your setup?
what kind of softwares do you use? is it worth it?
I have the laptop plus a 21" screen. I don't like so much when the mouse goes from one window to another (because of the different sizes). Also the colours are different and I don't like it
    cheers

Is it worth it? I spend a lot of time with my computer and I want to have the best experience. The Precision fits the bill for me (I have one for home as well). I don't care about portability so much, so it's fine that this machine is on the larger side, but I still want a laptop so that I can take it to meetings or on the road. I'm a software developer so I spend time with tools like Visual Studio and SQL Server Management Studio. I do some work with VMware and a host of other tools. I don't do graphics so the color stuff isn't an issue for me. However, I do most work on the two external displays, with the laptop display often used to open a document or view the status of a running process.

Sorry if the photo looks a little strange, I don't have much room to back up so I had to use the panorama feature on my phone to capture the whole setup. But you get the general picture.

    Thanks for the picture
it looks nice, i will try the same.
the problem with the colour is I see the same thing (p.e. a title window) in different colours depending on the monitor I look to.
Another thing I don't like is when I take the laptop all the windows of the programs come to the laptop monitor (of course) and when I plug the external screen they stay in the laptop.
Also some floating toolbars or dialogue windows pop up in different monitors and it is annoying
but overall the experience with different monitors is good
    cheers,

As others have mentioned the older Pr02x works with the dell m4800.

Depending on which GPU you have in the m4800 and if it's nvidia with optimus you can run the display +3 external displays. However this is only confirmed with 2 external 1080p DP and a single external VGA 1024p. Display with onboard display being the 1080p.
