Another question for you owners. Why choose the M4600 over something like the XPS15? I'm looking at it mostly because it has a matte display but I might look past that for the price difference...

quad core options, graphics almost twice as powerful, better screen options, 4 ram slots so you can have 16gb for cheap, mSATA slot so you can have a dual drive setup (boot SSD and main storage drive), better warranty (prosupport-no callcentre in india rubbish),removable battery, longer battery life (9 hours if you choose nvidia graphics and the normal non-IPS display with the 97wh battery, which does not protrude by the way)

Yeah, basically everything afhstingray said plus the fact that the M4600 is way more rugged. This thing can take a beating. The military uses it.

I was trying to find the right laptop that fit with my budget and I got down two either XPS15 or M4600. XPS15 is a bit cheaper for me. After looking at everything I chose M4600(I'm still waiting for it to be delivered).

-I hate glossy so it helps that is a very good matte screen although the glossy RGB screen of XPS is very good
    -Build Quality
-Better support(3 years comes already with it)
    -4 ram slots(since I already have 16gb ram)
-To replace the XPS hard drive you have to open the whole laptop(bad design) and it's made of low quality parts. Also only one drive.(I wanted a dual drive for my ssd and storage)
    -Better battery
    -Graphic card

Because of this I was ready to spend a little more than my budget just to get it.

XPS 15 advantages are a little cheaper, great screen(if you are okay with glossy) and audio quality is great.

What about using a Drive Caddy and replacing the Optical Drive?

Then you can have a 2.5" HDD and also a 2.5" SSD.

mSATA SSD's have very inferior performance when even compared to the cheapest of SATA II / 2.5" SSD's.

    Hi All,
2 Quick questions. Can the M4600 support 3 monitors at the same time? & I've kinda confused about the hardrives are there 2 sata slots and one m-sata? How many normal hardrives with out bay adapters can you fit in the M4600? Thanks

yes it can support 3, there is 1 msata slot, and 1 hard drive bay. some people are modifying the DVD drive bay to take another hard drive

so without adaptor, you can only fit one normal hard drive.

    Hello Guys.
I'm a bit confused of my storage in my M4600...

I'm planning to install a Intel 510 256 giga. The laptop is shipped with a 128gB sata 3 ssd drive. So wouldn't it be smarter to buy a 128 giga msata 3 harddrive, and install theese in raid 0?

How much more performance would i get by putting theese 2 in raid 0? Is it worth it? I'm thinking the read speed is about 400 mb/s without raid, will it be around 700mb/s in raid?
