Does anyone know about c:\apps pre-installed on M4600?
Inside c:\apps, it contains the following folders:
    c:\Apps\5XY47
    c:\Apps\h3gfn
    c:\Apps\osmedia

    Can I delete c:\apps?

Doubt that will do anything. You have to uninstall from the start menu via the actual programs utility or via windows uninstall. If after you uninstall and notice an empty folder or minimally filed one as compared to when it was installed, then go ahead and remove the folder.

A word of warning to those considering buying a OCZ vertex 3 (firmware 2.06 or worse) and a m4600 IPS.... The linux bootable toolkit provided by OCZ does not play nice with the m4600 IPS hardware combo. The OCZ SSD will usually require the machine to be put into standby to to "unfreeze" the drive. When the machine comes out of standby the IPS display will not turn on. I had to use another computer to do the firmware update. I am now running firmware 2.08 and have not experienced a SSD lockup since the update (6hrs). I also removed the intel AMT driver and intel rapid storage manager. OCZ forums mention the latest rapid storage drivers are just fine, so thats tomorrows project.

Try messing with your power settings. On the one setting that extends battery life, it turns off the DVD drive, so that could have something to do with it.

Thanks. I did have the dell standard power setting applied, but still no joy. In the end I did a format and reinstall which seems to have done the trick. Slightly drastic, but much easier to do on a new pc, rather than one that's a few months old.

    Hi,

I received my M4600 a few days ago.

Can someone tell me howto enable UEFI? I checked UEFI in bios, but now the laptop does not find any bootable device. How to fix that?

I tried to install ubuntu 11.04. Wifi works from the start. The only problem I have is when I want to restart the computer it freezes after the message: [timestamp] Restarting System

Anyone an idea how to fix that?

    Shutdown works fine.

    Regards pan

Can anyone test their battery life with the Firepro and a non-ips screen? This laptop looks great and I prefer the keyboard over the w520, but the one thing that's lacking seems to be the battery. I'm hoping it gets more than the 2.5 hours in the review posted in this forum.

Installed 2.09 firmware on the vertex 3 and its rock solid now ! A note on battery life I got 4.5 hours watching flash video with the plan set on max power savings. However I have the nvidia m2000 and an IPS screen.

If the review's calculation method is right (he used the wrong numbers though...), it should discharge (new 97 Wh battery) in 97/27=3.6 hours with maximum power saving (although I don't know if wifi was on, you may have better results with wifi off)...reason the reviewer @iieeann got lower life was his battery was 87 Wh, which was worn down to 85 Wh after the review...he somehow used 81 Wh in his calculations, mistake on his part evidently....
