I just use fingernail to open it, and i don't keep fingernail.
It is quite easy to open, but first it should start from both end from the top near Esc and Next key then all the way down. Starting from bottom edge is very difficult.

When i read the service manual, i misinterprete that the top cover (with power button and volume control) is the one need to be opened first, and luckily i did not try further after some forces.

I wonder why their picture shows to start from the top edge first and not the left and right edges:

On the keyboard itself, did you guys need to pull out the keyboard ribbon cable per the instructions or did you manage to seat the RAM in there without having to do this? Those thin ribbon cables have only a very small number of insertions/extractions (i.e., in the tens) before the metalic layer is stripped off.

I started at the corners and the top was too flimsy to not come out. I also did not pull the keyboard ribbon cable. just slid the keyboard up far enough to pop the ram in.

I have weird question, can you hear this laptop? Apart from fan noise, and HDD noise (unless you have SSD, I have one) I can hear whenever this machine is doing heavy computing or not and I don't like this *no idea how to describe it but old motherboard squeaking should be good reference*
my regular PC even thou using more power is not as noise as this laptop

Do you have the latest A04 bios? I think there were some fan noise improvements in it... But, if it's really squeaking, it might be that one of your fans, probably the CPU one, needs replacement.

    Hi Guys,

    Quick question:
    Lenovo W520 or
    Dell M4600 ?

Price is not an object (it will be a company laptop), but the long term reliability and user-friendliness.

yea I have this bios, what I've heard from Dell support is that fan adjustments will be done in upgrade to this bios or next release

I doubt it's the fan because when I was replacing HDD with SSD I could hear it even before fans started to spin

on the other hand noise just before fan starts is similar to this, well I may just call support again

    Question regarding IPS screen.
I know the IPS screen has better viewing angles and colour accuracy but does it produce sharper image and text.
For example, if you have two screens with the same resolution, does the text appear sharper with more detail on an IPS screen?

I would say no, because the dot pitch is the same, but the non-IPS panel has a slightly higher brightness and contrast ratio, although I don't have a link at the moment to prove this, giving the appearance of greater sharpness. I still haven't found anyone who has seen the two panels side by side. We should have an M4600 convention or something where we can actually compare IPS vs. non-IPS panels.
