    msjgriffiths,
Thanks for your fast turnaround reply.
Thanks for your thorough guidance all the way.
Now armed with your purchase knowledge, I'll place a more educated order with Dell.

The only RGB panel the M4600 has is the IPS RGB panel.

That's good to know. On the Australian site the options for monitors are:

15.6" HD (1366x768) Anti-glare LED [Included in Price]
    15.6" HD (1366x768) Anti-glare LED, Touchscreen [add $264.00]
    15.6” FHD (1920x1080) Anti-glare LED [add $63.80]
    15.6” FHD (1920x1080) RGB LED [add $341.00]

Our sales rep couldn't confirm the RGB LED was IPS but I took a gamble and ordered it anyway.

For anyone else ordering in Australia it's worth talking to dell. There are a few items not available through the au website which they can do over the phone (i.e. Complete Care protection and the AMD graphics card).

    Mano,
I'm so pleased that eventually I'll get the IPS RGB accidentally. Alas, my Dell China rep still doesn't know about the IPS screen he's selling to me.

Actually its 100% of either NTSC or Adobe color gamut. Probably NTSC.

sRGB was developed long ago as a standard for computers, monitors, digital cameras, and camcorders. It is a fairly narrow color gamut.

Adobe created Adobe RGB to get better printed results by creating a wider gamut for CMYK color processes that were edited on 3 color screens.

NTSC is every color that a human eye can see. It is the widest color gamut. Tube based monitors were able to dislay the NTSC gamut in the past, but now LCD panels are also able to fully display the gamut.

72% of NTSC is roughly equivalent to 100% of the sRGB color gamut. If I remember correctly, Adobe RGB is roughly 92% of NTSC.

The IPS panel will display much more than sRGB :)

Fwiw, I've had the same 9-cell that came with my machine five years ago, used virtually every day since then, almost always plugged in (w/ battery), and it still holds 75% of its original charge capacity. (It is made by Panasonic. ... The Sony's that year are the ones that were catching fire, etc.) Go figure.
