    First off, I was able to update the firmware with just a 130W charger, although I secured a 180W later on.
    I had to first update to firmware A08, before updating to the latest A16.

    Secondly, yes, one (1) DIMM will work, but it will be in single (1) channel mode.
    Normally you want to use all memory channels available for interleaving memory, which increases throughput and lowers latency.
    In the case of the m4600 series, they are all dual-channel (2) designs, so each channel having the same amount of total DRAM is ideal.

    Can anyone comment on their use of upgraded GPU on the M4600? I'd like to get something better than the 2000M, maybe K2000M or K2100M but could not find definitive confirmation that it works, also if anyone has something else than K2100M please let me know what you use and maybe what may the issues be. Looking to do some light gaming on the laptop. Thanks!

    K2000m should work, not k2100m. M5100 can work but fan control is broken. (Hwinfo to control)

    Thanks! Good to know. I think the K2000M will be a nice upgrade from the 1000M...

    Out of curiosity, do you know why the K2100M does not work? Is that a BIOS issue on the laptop or the card?. Since K2100M won't work, I guess it's fair to assume the K2200M won't work either, right? Thanks!

    I was just checking the post of this guy in China that is selling K2200M card from HP. Check out the screenshot he took from the 3D mark software. What surprises me is the CPU indicated is the X 920... does that mean he's running that card on a first generation Core extreme i7-920XM? That could mean this card could work in older laptops, that would be great...

    Just did some digging, seem like k2000 wont work~ they say it boot but cannot go into OS.
    it was assumed x000m will work on m4600 since they work on m6600. There were cases k2100m just don't work, and m6600 wont take 780m/k5100m.

    That would be either a m15x or 8740w. Amazing machines indeed.

    Yes, after contacting the seller he confirmed it was a 8740w he tested it with for the K2200M. I did take the plunge and bought the card. Worst case scenario I can sell it back on eBay or will maybe upgrade the M4600. I will receive both Dell and HP Bios files and the card will come with Dell Bios installed...

    I also got the K2000M, same if it does not work I will sell it back or return it... Amazing that the 8740w can still run the latest K2200m and Dell just can't make it work... :(

    These modifications I have done on my 4600;

    Gpu: Went from M5950 -> M4000 -> M5100
    Wifi: Went from 6300N -> 7260AC
    Cpu: Went from 2540M -> 2820QM and soon -> 2960XM
    Mem: Went from 2x2Gb -> 2x4Gb and soon -> 4x8Gb

    The M5100 works like a charm and runs even cooler on stock heatsink than the original 5950
    and is being seen as Radeon 8800 series.

    Nothing had to be adjusted heatsinkwise, so it was plug and play (Although, I had to reinstall drivers)

    There is hardly anything to find on M4600 with a M5100 on board, so I thought I ought to let you know.
