    Hello

I would like to know if any of you have installed a SSD in addition with the standard HDD on a Precision M4600
According to DELL support it is possible using a specific SSD format in MINI SATA such as Samsung 256 GB FULL MINI
But DELL is charging me almost 600 € to install this type of device while I can get it for less than 200 € on the market.

The question is in which slot this type of SSD will fit on the DELL M4600 because I want to keep the 750Go HDD for DATA ?

    Thanks for your help
    Fred

You can buy any standard mSATA drive. There are lots available: Newegg.com - Computer Hardware, SSD, Internal SSD, mSATA

It uses the same slot as the WWAN card so you can't have both installed at once.
You might have to go to the BIOS after install and switch the slot to mSATA mode before you can see the drive.

I finally found a cheap M5950 on eBay and installed it into my M4600 upgrading from the Quadro 1000M but after powering it back on, nothing happens. The power comes on and I can hear my fans spinning up but the LCD is blank.

Do I need to upgrade my BIOS (pre-2012) to support the M5950? Is there a clear CMOS procedure analogous to upgrading hardware on a desktop PC that I need to do in order for the M4600 to re-detect its new hardware? I tried holding down Fn to enter diagnostics but the Blinking/Off/Solid combination isn't documented anywhere.

    Hi All,

I face a small minor issue. I am using the quadro2000M nd intel510 ssd. While browsing on firefox or chrome, some pages begin to drag a lot. I can hardly scroll through. This forum nd facebook for example. I also noticed that this happens only when I install the latest updates of win7prof. anyone have any idea what might be causing it?? This does not happen in my vaioSB and i tried to run my M4600 from mSata, Intel X25Mssd and now changed to Intel510. Problem remains.

    appreciate any help.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello everybody,

I just got a second ssd - msata Intel 530. I am running Ubuntu (Linux).
The config right now is /home on msata Intel and / (OS + boot) on Samsung.
Is there anything else I should move on the new msata, other than /home?

Anyone know how to find a low wattage power adapter that could be used on an airplane (generally 80 watts maximum) that would at least charge the battery for the m4600? My 180 watt adapter pulls too much and the mini breaker in the outlet just shuts it off. I know the BIOS will detect and be uncooperative with starting it up if it is too low.
