    I have a question...

Which kind of drivers do you use? This one from Dell website or from Nvidia?
    What do you recommend?

    Thanks in advance!

Look at the thread, this has been discussed just a few pages before. There are different opinions, of course. To boil it down to one-liners:

1.) For best peace of mind, but old drivers, Dell
2.) For best performance, NVIDIA & Laptop News | Latest NVIDIA drivers and related news | laptopvideo2go.com (NVidia drivers + custom inf file)

So, anyone here with the hyper-sensitive pointing stick buttons? I'd like to know.

Ok, another update on the pointing stick buttons:

On the bare windows driver and the unbranded Alps driver 7.105 from Acer, suggested by someone in this forum, the cursor stuttering disappears. However, another problem I noticed was that the left pointing stick button is very sensitive, registering multiple clicks with only one press. For example, if I started Firefox from the start menu, it will open anywhere from 1 to as many as 5 browser windows.

Two calls with Dell support later, and what we saw was that while I was able to reproduce the multiple clicking issue with the stock microsoft driver and the unbranded alps driver, the issue seems to go away when using the Dell Alps driver. However, while the clicking issue goes away, the cursor lag and stutter returns.

So, now it seems that I may have to live with either laggy pointing stick movement, or multiple-clicking issues. I will have to choose the former, so I will actually be able to get some work done. I uninstalled the acer unbranded driver and reinstalled the Dell driver.

Since I was unable to reproduce the issue with the Dell driver, the support technician was unable to help any further. I wish there was someone else I can talk to at dell so that they can look into the pointing stick issues, as there are people, like myself, who use this method of input. I've been using the pointing stick since the C-Series and this issue is this has become very bothersome.

I will try out the newer dell driver for now, and do more tests, and keep everyone posted on any progress.

i dont suppose the lag could be due to the "touch check" settings? Check in the mouse settings with the dell software installed

Changing/Disabling TouchCheck does nothing to fix the lag, or even reduce it.

    Hi all,
I just got a refurb M4500 and it just has a DVD-ROM drive.

I ordered a slim dvdr/w: Newegg.com - LITE-ON Black Slim SATA Slot Load CD/DVD Burner . Does anyone know if I can use the bezel from the existing dvd drive for the lite-on? If not I will get a genuine Dell replacement, this was kind of a crapshoot.

Thanks in advance and thanks for all the info on these laptops.

-Happy Inspiron 6400 owner glad to be upgrading

I've just received my Precision M4500. I've not stressed too much the machine yet but it works like a charm so far. Compared to the M4400 I perceive a bit worse quality construction, but overall it feels sturdy. Screen is very sharp (received the LG panel) albeit colors look a little washed out and the 16:9 ratio seems very good for watching movies but odd for productivity apps. Just my first impressions, I will install a few games and see how the FX1800 performs. Did anyone try to overclok it?
