Just seems too high to me. Subjective, but I assume there is a linear relationship between temperature and failure rate... probably ignorant assumption. But luckily the machine is fast enough for me with too much manipulation.

Just an FYI for M4500 owners

I was having an issue with the Nvidia driver crashing (with recovery) on my M4500. Tried various things with no successful result. Dell came out to replace my motherboard and now the problem is completely fixed.

    Of note:
The motherboard that "was" in my system was

    NAL22 LA-5573
    Rev 2.0 - A01 - Manufacture Date 5/19/2010

    The replacement motherboard is
    NAL22 LA-5573
    Rev 1.0 - A00 - Manufacture Date 1/18/2010

I'm using dell latitude D610 and man...and it easily heats up like hell. I've been using notebook cooler from Antec. I hear some people complaining about the cord, though I have no problems with mine. It has 2 fans, high and low speeds.

What sort of "extra" cooling options are internally available for the M4500?

I posted this in general but I think this is the better place. I need to go delete the old post.

Has anyone found a place to get the 16gb of ram for a little less than what Dell wants for the M4500?

    Thanks for the help

    Josh

I don't really know, but I would think it would be highly unlikely that you would find it significantly cheaper than what DELL can offer? These modules are probably not produced in any kind of volume presently?

The option to go to 16GB in the future was one of the reasons why I opted for a Precision, to be a bit more future-proof. But personally I was thinking 2-3 years from now. :)

2-3 years would kill me as it will already be time for another new laptop in that time. We'll see.... hopefully it comes down to maybe $1k

About three weeks ago I asked here if anybody could repeat the conditions of my boot problems described below, but no answers.

I am currently "discussing" with Dell the possibility of a BIOS error - and I am not really getting anywhere without additional evidence. So if PLEASE somebody could recreate my setup?

Good luck with a fix, can't be of any help sorry, while your discussing the BIOS for M4500, ask them when we can expect the ridiculous POST time to be fixed
