Was wondering about something... I noticed my M4500 reports a freefall sensor and DELL freefall protection. Now I ordered the machine with a 500GB disk, but I also ordered the drive bay to put an extra disk in the optical bay. Soon I will acquire an SSD as bootdrive and put the 500GB disk in the optical bay. The obvious question is: does this freefall protection also cover harddisks in the optical bay, or just the regular internal disk? Since that one would become an SSD, it doesn't even NEED the freefall protection anymore, anyway...

AFAIK the discs have freefall protection, there's is no extra system for it in the laptop. If you swap the HDD supllied by Dell with one without a freefall sensor your disk will not be protected.

This driver fixed a problem with my two screens not being seen at boot. It is stated that it will fix an unrecognized screen problem- looks like it did.

Others on the forum said they had to get the high-end docking station to fix this. I do not need it and seems to work with the cheaper version now.

    Thanks for the post! :D

OKay, so i want to buy an extra battey (of the slide type) to my m4500.

Are there any other possibilites than to buy them directly from dell?

And also, anyone have anything to say about them. Do they work okay?

I think that the Free Fall protection is built into the laptop. The reason I say this is that I replaced the original laptop hard drive and I installed the image onto the new hard drive (does not have built-in sensor). When rebooted I was prompted to enable the free fall protection for the new hard drive. So from my experience you should have an option to enable it but since your configuration is different not 100% sure.

Which driver do you guys use? The one on nvidia.com is 260.99. Is it safer to wait for Dell to post them?

Also, I have a hard time reconciling the difference in driver versions. On Dell's website, all I can find is 8.17.12.5922, A08. Where does it say NVIDIA's version number?

I share you confusion but installed the one on the Dell site just recently and it resolved my problems with mt 30" monitor not being recognized. I tried some of the NVIDIA drivers and they would not install.

    Owners!!

Can I upgrade my i5 in M4500 to i7 quad without any compatibility issues? is the socket and the bios supported? is there any reason why it would not work?

also are heat sinks different for the two??

    Thanks in advance
