I guess it depends on the engine... I'm using Virtual Box and can use available RAM in my virtual machines. Haven't had a problem yet.

Where'd you hear that? I have 8 gigs of crucial ram and my virtual machines get's everything I add to it....please give us a link on that. I'm using VirtualBox btw. I'd like to see that. SSD is coming this way next year. ;)

EDIT: If they are talking about Virtual PC/XP mode, that very well could be...but that's just a VPC problem, nothing else. Virtualbox OS shows 3 gigs allocated if I allocate that. I use VB because it's portable to Linux, which VPC isn't so doesn't matter to me anyway.

A few questions if you don't mind :)

How is the display's colour reproduction? I do a lot of image editing.
    Is the screen useable outdoors?
About how long does the battery last while surfing web and doing work?
Is the laptop suitable to be used on your lap?
Are the keyboard keys anything like the quality of MBPs?

Lastly, how do I order an M4400 if I don't have a business

1.What screen are you looking for? Bot the RGB LED and the 2CCFL are pretty decent in color reproduction. You will need to calibrate it though to get some results.
2.The 2CCFL is easily usable outdoors but not if bright sun hits the screen directly, you might wan to turn around to face the sun then ;)
    3. My battery used to last for 3 hours but i'm on my second now and this one is showing capacity loss pretty fast again. The first battery lost over 35% in 9 months and i have the 2nd since august and it's lost 10,5% already :( I don't even use it on battery that often.
    4. It gets warm but not too hot to use on your lap
    5. Keyboard is very decent, get the backlit one
    6. You can just order it, no business required as far as i know, where will you buy it? If in the UK or US i'd strongly recommend the outlet

I am looking into upgrading to the M4400 Blu ray drive can someone give me a short review on how they like or dislike their's?

    http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/...x?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=313-7705#Overview

(There is very little information on the Dell site) :-(

I have a couple quick questions:

I know its only 2X but around how long does it take to write a disc?

Does the drive support 50GB discs?

Does the drive burn normal DVD's, CD's Etc?

How is the playback of movies?

    Thank you for the help!

How do you check for the down clocking? I am doing VERY HEAVY HD/SD film work and I have maxed the processor out for hours on end with exports and renders. I thought it might be fun to see whats happening to my cores speed during the work.

Gotta love that downclocking given the alternative :D :D Isn't there a desktop gadget that shows the cpu speed? I'm in linux now and can't check.

You can actually calculate that. The transfer speed for bluray is 1x = 4.5MB/s. In reality it depends on the disc and data. A lot of small files might take longer. I just wrote a 6GB of data on a white Panasonic disc rated 2x, but it would only write at 0.41x, and it takes about 50 minutes. So if you can get a disc to write at 1.0x, 6GB would take half of that. A 50GB can be estimated from that.

I have a 1x max write drive (Pana UJ 215), and 2x max write disc, and usually I get around 0.5x write. It really depends on the hard disc speed + your bd-r sl or dl.

As far as I know, from simple google search the drive from the link you provided supports BR-DL discs. Somebody posted that it doesn't support DL DVD on this forum a while back (end of 2008), but probably there's a new firmware from Dell or Pana?

I never tried watching br movie on my drive, so other people might know better about that.
