For anyone who has the new system, does it have Nvidia Advanced Optimus?

    AFAIK...
It has NVIDIA Optimus, and you can disable it in the BIOS if you like (unlike in XPS systems). When disabled, all displays will be attached directly to the dGPU. However, it does not support "dynamic" switching of which GPU the display is connected to, you have to reboot and visit the BIOS to change it.

Would that be the same as a MUX switch? Or will routing only through the dGPU still have a performance hit?

Honestly its not a big deal. You have 16x PCIe 4.0 for GPU traffic, and Nvidia has the Quadro Optimus compression VERY optimized compared to Geforce. You will literally see performance within 1% of being in dedicated GPU mode.

I would also suggest connecting any external displays via USB-C, routed via the iGPU MUX in the bios. This way applications do not get stuck running on the Nvidia GPU if you disconnect from power for a meeting or whatever. Optimus requires far too much micro-management to keep battery life acceptable IMHO.

This is why with the config I ordered it is going to be iGPU only and connect to an eGPU on my desk if needed. That way the dedicated GPU cannot possibly be randomly running when on battery as it is physically disconnected. Finally with TB4 being on-die the performance is good enough to be lag free for me.

Yup I'm aware of this unfortunate truth, I just wish that the price delta between the 4000 and 5000 were more justified in that case; because I wouldn't say that the relatively small performance boost, and extra 8GB of VRAM is worth the 1k USD, but I know that this topic has been discussed already.

Pretty sad... especially considering the paltry 8gb vram on the A4000. You know it's almost like nvidia wants you to buy the A5000.......

Yes, there is a mux onboard to handle this, and you won't have an "Optimus" performance hit when Optimus is disabled.
That said, like @win32asmguy says, the hit is basically negligible in most cases. I've done a lot of gaming with Optimus on without issue. (I've found a handful of games and apps behave pretty strangely with it, though.)

Okay, paltry 8 GB? 8 GB is quite plenty, and well in the 'high-end' region of NVIDIA's lineup. Most programs and apps I have hardly use more than 6 GB, and the other 10 GB I have is mostly just sitting there, empty.

I would say 4 GB is 'paltry', but definitely not 8, which is plenty for 95% of use-cases.
