Eh, unfortunately on this system there isn't really any way to influence the RAM behavior. The BIOS selects a profile at boot, and that's that. Check to make sure that you're on the latest BIOS, but otherwise not much can be done. (I think that it's funny that Dell shipped such modules in the system, but... Still not much to complain about given the upgrade that you were gifted :p.)

oh yes, please don't take this as me complaining. this thing blows the pants off my previous system. i can complete some of cad examples for school in 1/4th the time and programs are way less buggy on this nvidia card than on that abomination of a processor/dgpu combo radeon thingy that was on my older precision. i already love it. i was just weirded out by the odd setup for the ram.

Hello all! I have a 7550 with the following specs waiting for me to pick it up:

    i7-10750H
    32GB DDR4 2933MHz RAM
    Quadro RTX 4000 (8GB VRAM)
M.2 1TB PCIe NVMe Class 40 SSD (OS)
    M.2 256GB PCIe NVMe Class 40 SSD
15.6" FHD Non-Touch, 45% NTSC, 220 Nits (no cam, no mic)

I'll be using this with dual 28" 4k monitors, so not too concerned with the low screen quality.

I'm wondering if there are suggestions as to some things that could/should be done to these machines prior to first use to get the best experience from them? I'll primarily be using it for 2d & 3d AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, MS Office, and a bit of standard internet browsing usage. No gaming of any sort. This is my first workstation computer (see my signature the Sager machine I've been using for the past 5 years to do this type of work if you're interested).

Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

So I have the 7750 with the RTX4000 and I actually upgraded from a 7520. I got the bigger version not just for the 4 m2 slots but also bc of the wattage for the GPU. But I also know that there was a BIOS flash that allows the 7550 to pull some more juice. I believe that is earlier on their threat. You might want to check that out.

    Hello everyone!

Is it possible to charge the 7550 using a generic USB Type-C PD charger? I understand that it may not work to full capacity (less performance and/ or slow charging). But, can it be used as a secondary means of reasonably operating the laptop, say whilst travelling?

I am particularly looking at picking up a 100W-150W GaN charger which can pump out 100W on the Type-C port as a means to operate the laptop as well as charge my phone (Samsung Note 10 Plus).

Would be grateful if someone can share actual experience of using such a charger and the associated limitations.

I don't think so. I have the 7750 and I tried using my Caldigit TB3 Plus hub that powers my MacBook Pro and I got a message saying it was insufficient to charge. My power brick for the 7750 is 240 watts and even with the 7550 the discrete GPU will take so much power I don't think it can handle it. Dell has a special dual TB3 Hub that utilizes both ports to charge...but that doesn't seem to be what you are looking for.

Also, if anyone knows, why is it that we can get an RTX 5000 but we can't get a TB3 port attached to it? Say what you will about MacBook Pro's but with dual TB3 controllers you can literally run one line to a hub like the Caldigit and then daisy chain a 5k monitor out of it while utilizing all the other inputs. A similar setup with a 7750 forces the integrated card to produce the graphics and significantly slow down the system.

One more thing...has anyone noticed a recent windows issue that makes the system CPU activity jump to 30% after waking up, and sometimes up to 70-80% and rendering the system practically unusable? A reboot will "reset" the issue but if you put the system back to sleep it resurfaces. I've researched it and saw several complaints across Levano and HP forums, there doesn't seem to be a fix for it. It's not a driver issue and people have done reinstalls and the issue persists. I unfortunately have noticed the issue in my system which essentially just forces me to not put my system to sleep at night. That's kind of annoying because I keep my setup in clamshell mode and if I powered down I would have to pull it out of the vertical stand, open it up, and turn it on. I know, #fireworldproblem but if you have your system setup behind your monitor its not something you want to do every day.

Thank you again Aaron44126. I tried the tf-card adapter you'd proposed, but alas the machine wouldn't so much as power up with it connected.

Thank you too daandi! I think given the lack of success with the sd-card adapter I might leave sleeping dogs lie until I hear of something proven working in the slot.

Head to firmware → Video → Discrete graphics pass through → enable the option.

Not sure if the 7X50 notebooks have this, but the 7X30 and 7X40 did, and it allowed the NVIDIA dGPU to output directly through the USB-C/Thunderbolt ports.
