There are a ton of drivers that need to be updated before you make any hardware changes. I would suggest a program like driver reviver to ensure everything is up to date. support assist is helpful but it misses a ton of important drivers.

But I agree put the stock RAM back in and get your system up and running before you make any changes.

The way this system has 2 slots beneath the keyboard and 2 above I went the stock route and overpaid. Specifically to avoid this program. Plus if there is a problem with the ram it’s covered under the pro support plus.

After taking secondary dies and another reset I've managed to get to the BIOS.
It shows 2X32GB dies properly, but it won't boot :(
I only get black screen, fan spin, and keyboard lighting. No flashing error LED.

Edit: I've installed original 8GB doe and I was able to get into Windows.
I'm now updating system fully, and I'll attempt installing large RAM later.

    Edit2:
After updating system and installing 2X32GB (under keyboard). System booted properly and then BSOD'd after like 2 minutes sitting on the desktop.

Is there any way to control timings/frequency in this machine? I've searched BIOS and found nothing useful.

I've change to second kit in primary memory banks.
It has problems with booting, but now I've managed to get to Win10.
I have error flashing, but it's not anything from the list. Its 4(or5) orangecand one white blinks.
    Pc is working so far.
I've contacted Crucial, they asked me to test memories one by one with memtest and they seem eager to help (those dies are listed as compativle on their website).

According to CPU-Z both dies run at XMP2.0 (3200Mhz CL16). Is there any way to force compatibility mode?

The BIOS selects the memory speed / settings "automatically" at boot time and there is no option to configure it manually in these systems.

So after unsuccessful boot it should revert to compatible settings.
    But it doesn't.

Btw I've numbered my dies 1-4. Now I'm running Windows memory test on 1 and 2.
Prior to that they worked for about 30min in Win10.
Is it possible that BIOS will "settle" after few hard reboots and it's now working better?

All and all, I bought this (exorbitantly expensive) system to run 128GB of RAM for work. If it can't do that, it's just really posh paperweight. So hopefully I'll manage to get it to work.

The system can run with 128GB of memory.

Have you tried it with the original modules that shipped with it? Is it stable in that configuration? If so, the memory that you purchased is to blame; if not, you need to engage Dell to get it fixed (with the original modules still installed).

If it doesn't work with the Crucial modules, and yet Crucial is claiming that they are compatible, then it is their job to make it right. You might have to select some different modules if they can't get it sorted for you.

I've run memory test on 2 modules. It went ok.
So I now just try some RAM stress tests, and then I'll do the same with second set.
And if that goes ok, I'll go for 128GB.

Edit: OCCT crashed my OS after maybe 20 seconds. Not really encouraging. I think that's it. I wrote to Crucial asking for a exchange to other (slower) set or for a refund.

The memory controllers/circuit lanes on the Precisions generally appear to be a little stricter on what XMP profiles are acceptable. CL16 is admittedly a little fast, and you might consider exchanging them for CL18/19. These notebooks are notably finicky with memory.

    That is also my conclusion.
I've asked Crucial to exchange my memories for a bit slower set.
If not, I think I buy Corsair Vengeance 2933/CL19.

Milion dollar question: is there a way to disable XMP?

I've tested Crucial 2x16GB 2400MHZ Cl17 from my 3520. They also do not work. I only have) get 2,5 "blink of death".
They should as they were supplied by Dell.
Are there any restrictions other than "not being to fast "? Maybe only combinations listed in Specification will work? If that's so, there's no 4x32GB non ECC there. And if I cannot have 128GB of RAM in this laptop, I'm thoroughly screwed.
