Has anybody configured their precision with 32gb ram modules? If you received it, could you please post the images or write down the serial numbers and manufacturer?
Btw, looks like Dell updated their RAM configurator. Now it shows 2666Mhz ECC modules compared to 2400 prior to that. Then they lowered the price of 64GB non-ecc config to $700+ instead of $900+ as before. Waiting for Black Friday/Christmas sales discounts to order my 7530.

Well, got my 7720 yesterday, but the 18,000 mAh power companion that Dell says will work with it won't arrive until next week.
I know this is the 7730 thread, but I'll let you know how it goes as it's supposed to work with the 7730 as well.

To be fair, you knew what you were signing up for. You knew about the Max-Q and the locked clock/voltage controls and the lack of a Pascal BIOS editor and about Captain Nvidia Falcon preventing software flashing of modded vBIOSes. So what is there to regret.

Not really fair to compare desktops to laptops like that either, laptops have always been more locked down. But this gen of mobile Quadros has taken that to an extreme. Kepler and Maxwell at least gave you +135MHz on the core and unlimited on the memory, and with a relatively easy ability to modify and flash alternative BIOSes. If you wanted the same level of control as on your 860M, you should've gotten a GeForce.

Theories are ultimately pointless if they're not realistically achievable. I can say that, in theory, if your P3200 had unlimited power and could be cooled to never exceed 40C, it would run 1911MHz at 1.062V OOTB without touching anything since that is the max boost on all Pascal cards. It's about as ridiculous as the Thermal Velocity Boost feature on the i9-8950HK that lets it Turbo Boost to 4.8GHz on one core if temps are below 50C.

Not to mention, your numbers are incorrect. Your P3200 Max-Q runs at about 1250MHz under load, as the HWiNFO screenshot on the last page showed. That's a good 500MHz below a 1070N. It would need about 115W to hit the same clocks as the 1070N. And for the VRAM to make up most of the 88GB/s BW deficit on that 192-bit bus, it does need to be clocked to 10GHz.

Hi again, everybody. I have read all the thread and it is still not clear to me what I have to do to make the laptop I buy work according to the characteristics of it. I want to buy a 7730 i7-8750 / 8850 16Gb P3200.
I do not want to overclock him but I want to avoid thermal throttled as much as possible. Is this possible?
For example the i7-8750 works at 3.9gh with 6 cores. If I perform a render for 1 hour of time (for example), will that cpu work at 3.9 gh during that time? As I have seen in reviews of this thread this is not possible with the laptop as it comes from the factory due to the thermal throttling, but it can be remedied with the cpu undervolting.
On the other hand I see that you also talk about the power limit unlocked (in the i9), what is it for?. Is there a complete guide to what to do to the notebook to work with the highest possible performance?
With respect to the P3200 of the 7730 I think there are no significant problems to the loss of power since it works in a stable manner even with prolonged working times. It is true?

Sorry for my ignorance on these issues and thanks in advance to all.

So the 8950HK can be adjusted and overclocked (barring the thermal limitations) beyond 90short/60long? And only that CPU? Have anyone confirmed this?

Regarding the Quadro gpu, on the dell manual it says there's a power cord. I wonder if you use some liquid metal and paint across the R005 shunt resistors you will be able to reduce some of the resistance and increase TDP by tricking the card it consumes less power than what it's actually consuming?

I've heard about the shunt power mod, it's what some people were doing on MXM cards before the Pascal BIOS editor was a thing. But I've also heard that the mod degrades over time and the LM eats away the solder. Ofc there's also the risk of carrying around a $3K BGA laptop with exposed LM on the mobo, and I'm not sure what runoff protections people who did the mod used, if any.

I haven't bought the thing yet though. Still waiting on a good quote from dell sales.
