Precision 7530 & Precision 7730 owner's thread

I was planning on 64GB with 4x 16GB. In the configuration page, the 2x32GB were priced the same as 4x 16GB.

 

IMO you shouldn't buy Dell's RAM at all, and source your own aftermarket memory.

 

The price difference from what dell was offering vs aftermarket was very little. I also figured if I had any tech issues with the system, it would be easier to troubleshoot if it was their ram in the system rather than having them blame any 3rd party ram for issues in the system...

 

Just received my 7530 replacement today. The screen is beautiful no dead pixels, no back-light bleeding.The build quality also seems to be better.

 

Seems the 128GB RAM option that robotx21 mentions is still not available in the UK. Interesting prices though, and I agree that buying one or two sticks of 32GB RAM might make sense as you can then buy more as and when budget allows. Wonder what the CL of those RAM are.

 

Are there any 2666 MHz ECC RAM modules that are confirmed to be working and stable?

Dell only offers 2400 MHz ECC RAM – no idea why – and I’m considering ordering it with the minimum configuration and putting in the RAM myself. However, I need to be sure that whatever RAM I get works well.

I saw 2666 MHz ECC RAM from Kingston:

No idea—you'd have to install it yourself and see. I'm planning to get Samsung 2400 MHz B-die ECC RAM i.e. the M474A2K43BB1-CRC, and overclock/tighten timings on it. Two sticks of 16 GB for 32 GB total, with more space for another 32 later in the future.

I've been trying to get my TB18DC to work properly, and I can't get it to...

So we've got the mouse/keyboard stutter, which seems to happen every 10 seconds or so. Then we've got the fact that attached USB audio devices simply don't work. But the worst of all; my 7730 does not charge from the dock, no matter what I do. Sigh.
I'll be calling Dell tomorrow. At the moment the dock is nothing more than an overly complicated HDMI extension cable.

 

I am very close to purchasing a 7730. I will probably configure it with minimal disk and install my own (three 1TB 970 pro's and a 2TB 970 EVO), and the configuration I have in mind (i9, 64GB, P3200, 4K) totals to about $4500 USD before tax (the Dell configuration site is not working right now). Usually I call up dell and negotiate with a salesman to save a few bucks.

I am wondering if any of you have been able to get any substantial discounts? And, if you've got any recommendations to Dell negotiating techniques, I'd appreciate that as well!

 

I was talking with a Dell salesman yesterday about a 7530. I've got a quote from Lenovo via their EPP site, and emailed the quote to Dell to see if they can knock it down to meet Lenovo's price. They should be getting back to me on Monday...ideally beating it. After all, I'll just order from Lenovo if they don't.

I don't know that I'll buy it, or anything, right now, just due to all the negatives I'm reading about this generation. I'm thinking I might be better off just going back to the "build a ThreadRipper for power, and keep on using my 7480 when away from the desk" plan.
