Precision 7530 & Precision 7730 owner's thread

I'm not sure what you're hoping to gain from that setup. The 970 Pro is so fast on it's own, There's very little to gain.

Remember that the only theoretical speed improvement of RAID0 is in the bandwidth, not in the access time. For the vast majority of regular use, access time has far more impact on how it will actually perform.

 

A lot of people here are using the 970s from Samsung. I do not see any problem putting them into a RAID 0. You ccould have four of the speed kings installed in total!

 

I'm in Hawaii until the 15th but I'll run AIDA64 when I'm back and post the results. It's stable in every test and benchmark I've run, but Dell's own Precision Optimizer app thinks that it can only have 32GB of 3200 MHz RAM, so it displays an error.

I've got 3 970 Pro 1TB drives and 2 of them are in RAID 0. There is a speed increase of a few hundred mb/s but be aware that you cannot use Samsung NVME drivers for the drives that are in the RAID array.

 

What are the downsides of not being able to use the driver?

 

Samsung driver is more optimized. Samsung firmware updates won't work in raid. You will need to break the raid, update and recreate the raid. Did that a few times with 840 evos without loosing data

 

Newbie here. Been lurking for a while waiting for a new I9 7730, after years using a still working M4600. Thankfully, no dead pixels. Put in a 2TB Samsung 970 Evo NVMe drive in the 7730 and Samsung Magician (V.5.2) says it doesn't support the 970 Evo. Would using the latest Samsung NVMe driver be the ticket? OR, as others have hinted, will I need to wait for V.3 of the Magician? Your sage advice would be welcomed.

 

this is screen is the same model as used in M4800,7510,7520.

 

You are right man. uhm, on the other hand, by the way, if I have to pick 7530, perhaps I might just pick P52 instead. From corporate perks website now, same config, like 2176+4k+P2000+big battery, 7530 is around $2800 while P52 is $1400 or so. I honestly feel very hard to imagine why 7530 has to be so much expensive than P52. Even 7530 without Nvidia card is still more expensive than P52 with Nvidia card.

 

Sata must be in ahci mode, not raid, check this in bios. Then you can use samsung drivers and magician.

 

I understand. I have a use case where I process a large number of files in multiple threads/processes, so the increased bandwidth should come in handy.

There was a mention that I would not be able to use the Samsung driver. Is there much of an improvement with this driver over raid mode?
