Precision 7530 & Precision 7730 owner's thread

But I wonder is it possible to install the antenna inside the display cover just like the wifi antenna？I feel this is possible.

 

Oh, LM. Bad experiences with it. I tried LM a while ago on my old Clevo, it bungled up and oxidised. Might have been user error, might have been an extra low-pressure contact area... Dunno. I'm also not fond of the way it sticks to everything and cannot be cleaned off the copper... I was thinking something thick, something more traditional, or the PGS.

I was thinking, since the PGS pads have an extremely high heat conductivity in the XY axes, I could cut a larger-than-necessary piece following the shape of the heatpipes and attach it to them by means of some heavy-duty tape or something, so the heat is effectively spread out over a larger area.

I followed both PGS threads, it appears the usual OC nuts (i.e. everyone with a notebook with an LGAtried interesting combinations of sandwiches of PGS and LM, and appeared to get both the benefits of the soft PGS and the conductivity of the LM... I might try this in the future, but for now the reusability and non-messiness of the PGS pads really appeal to me.

Of course, any other normal TIM (whether conductive or not) recommendation is highly welcome.

 

I thought about doing the PGS LM sandwich thing, but the number of extremely bad results far outnumbering the few positive ones made me scrap the idea, so I ended up fixing my heatsink so I could use LM proper and buying an upgraded heatsink from China.

 

Both 7730 and 7530 use Microsoft precision touchpad. And three button are very useful when using Maya and houdini or 3d software like these. So xps type of touchpad is a drawback for us 3d artist.

 

Wow, finally a BGA laptop that can boot at DDR4-3000+ using XMP. Congrats. Is it totally stable in all memory testing? Do you have an AIDA64 Cache/Memory benchmark screenshot posted anywhere? Curious where it falls among these AIDA64 benchmark samples.

 

It's interesting - I have to make a paradigm shift when I use this laptop. I have to remember that this is replacing a 20-lb workstation/server, not my old laptop. The ability to carry the equivalent of my workstation in a 7lb package, complete with a 17" 4k monitor, is really something to behold. Not that I would ever bring this to a Starbucks, but it is good to know that I *could*.

I have now had two people look at this and use the phrase "old school". I have no idea what they are talking about.

 

You've got to be kidding me. Pardon the stereotype, but were they 20-something-year-old, MacBook-wielding, Starbucks frappucino-sipping, gender studies female majors?

 

I am thinking of putting two 970 pros into a raid 0 on the 7730.

Has anyone done this? And, are there preferred slots to do this?

 

Not sure what stereotype fits best, but it is probably safe to use the word "stupid" to describe them. And, for anyone that is not sure who we are talking about... they should be pretty easy to spot on Facebook.

Anyone endowed with, at minimum, ordinary intelligence takes "old school" as a huge compliment anyhow.

 

I do not mind admitting that my old M6600 looks pretty dated, but it still works great and is packed full off tech goodness. The 7730 looks much more modern and sleeker from what I have seen online, which it should, as it is.

I regard the size of the 17" Precisions as a theft deterrent, any thief that looks at my M6600 would probably just leave it. Not sure about the 7730, but I'll take old school any day!!
