Thanks for the correction.

I realise that I missed out the 1/(xxx) in my own post (which would give the same formula as mentioned by @yrekabakery), which warranted the correction.

 

Just got my 7730! I'll post benchmarks and screenshots as soon as I got through the windows setup.

 

Ok, here's some results!

Specification:
i9-8950HK
Quadro P4200
16GB DDR4-2666 (at CL19, apparently)
256GB NVMe SSD, an SK Hynix PC401.
FHD screen.

I'll be swapping that Hynix for a samsung, but I got caught off guard with how soon this was deliverd; wasn't expecting it until next week really.

Not sure what to conclude here. It appears to be a P4200.

Firestrike:

The firestrike score, at 13946, seems to be in the middle between a mobile GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 MaxQ. (compared to benchmarks at notebookcheck.net)
edit: I'm suprised by this score, actually... Earlier reports of the P5200 showed that it actually scored less?
edit2: A rerun of firestrike showed a score of 14387

Time Spy:

Time Spy score right at GTX1080 MaxQ scores. (5572 vs 5591)
edit: a rerun of timespy showed a score of 5700

HWmonitor after timespy:

Here we see that the i9 actually reached 100 degrees Celcius on some cores. It's also been consuming over 80W. (I've also seen a package consumption of 88W later on)
I need to get XTU on here to see what's actually happening.

It's weird, but the power consumption of the P4200 is not visible in HWmonitor. I can check utilization and temperature, but not the actual power consumption. What other tools could I use for this?

During the benchmarks, the 7730 was actually quite loud, but in a non-intrusive kind of way. Kind of like there's a big fan in the room.

 

Supposedly yes. A member on another forum got the info from Dell that 3200 Mhz RAM should be available at the end of August and there may also be M2 SATA SSDs.

As others have posted, it is already possible to put in 3200 Mhz RAM yourself, though.

I’m still not sure whether to go ECC 2666 or non-ECC 3200...

 

GPU power can be measured using HWiNFO64. Nice scores though, Fire Strike Graphics is between a 1070 Max-Q and 1070N. This confirms that the P4200 is the full 115W version, and makes the slower more expensive 110W P5200 Max-Q a even bigger waste of money.

The main problem right now is your i9 is throttling badly. The Physics score is extremely low.

 

Well, I installed XTU and, without changing any setting, did another firestrike run. Here's the result:
Massive improvement in physics. No throttling on the CPU, peaking to 93 degrees. I did do a reboot just before the run, so maybe there was still some windows stuff active in the background last time?

Anyway, slight decrease in graphics score, massive improvement in physics.

121W peak on the P4200! Definitely not max Q.


And the CPU stuff, showing the power limits etc.

Again showing there's no point to the i9 except in short burst loads that aren't power-hungry enough to exceed 90W PL2 or hit temp limit. In extended loads it's gonna drop to the same clocks as the 8850H and 8750H.

Thank you for these benchmarks. As I'm likely to buy the same config (dGPU excluded) sometimes
in September, they are very useful, especially CPU result (as I will buy a config without dGPU) as
I can compare directly with my desktop config: a i7 8700K (non overclocked).

With that CPU I get a physics score of 18457 in FireStrike (vs 17900 for you), and in TimeSpy a CPU score of 7319 (vs 6956 for you).

Conclusion: very close performance between a desktop and mobile CPU, both 6 cores.

Keep in mind that your 8700K has default PL1/PL2 of 95W/118.75W compared to his i9's 60W/90W, and he was also thermal throttling as well.
