You can install 1 2.5 hdd/ssd if you take the small battery. 3x m.2 or 4x m.2 if no hdd.

Large battery is mandatory for power intensive configs with larger dGPU.

You can add change Ram on your own. If you add get the same CL. Mine came with cl19.

This is fine. You can order slightly faster RAM but unless you have a very specific memory-intensive workload, you will never notice the speed difference. I personally would take the memory from Dell and order the SSD drives aftermarket, if I were buying a new personal system. Dell's memory prices aren't as absurd as they used to be.

If you're buying your own RAM, it's probably best to buy four modules so that you can be sure that they are all the same speed. Otherwise, wait until your system arrives, measure the memory speed and timings (CPU-Z), and purchase three more modules with identical capacity and timings. Everyone so far seems to be getting RAM that is CL19-19-19-43 (DDR4-2666).

I also recommend hanging onto your original RAM. Replacing the RAM does not void your warranty, but Dell has the option to require you to restore the system to its original configuration before performing warranty service, if they suspect that the RAM may be part of the issue.

    1. 3x M.2 in the 7530 and 4x M.2 in the 7730. You can use M.2 SATA or M.2 NVMe. If you order the smaller battery, you can sacrifice one M.2 slot for a 2.5" SATA slot... You need an interposer and bracket that only comes with the system if you order a 2.5" drive. Large battery is required for Quadro P3200 and up.
    2. This is fine, but you won't be able to order the large battery in this case.
    3. Yes.
    4. That's odd, I was able to configure such a system...
    5. You can use the fingerprint reader to log into your system with Windows Hello. There are two types. FIPS is a little square that you rest your finger on. The other one is a little "slot" that you slide your finger across. I doubt that you would find any use for the SmartCard reader unless your organization uses SmartCards for authentication.

    Thanks, Aaron.

Looking at what happened to the 970 EVO and PRO on launch the M.2 NVMe are only going to get cheaper so makes sense to get as many of those slots as possible.

I was looking at the P4200 which means I need the larger battery so do not mind doing without a 2.5" SSD, although I do quite like having a cheap (US$80) 2TB SSHD as storage - or possible the 860 Evo like you have done.

If I understood your point 2 reply correctly if I order a M.2 NVMe from the beginning (just one slot) and leave the others empty at order/config time I can then order the larger battery and just insert the additional M.2 NVMes that I buy elsewhere later?

Are you happy with the screen you bought? The IGZO looks great on paper and will most likely make sense as the years go buy.

    Thank you.

Correct, you can order with one M.2 drive and buy more later, the system includes the screws and heatsinks that you will need to install the additional drives. (The thermal pad on the heatsinks covering the unused slots has a little plastic film that you need to peel off when installing an SSD there.)

I also like having a bulk storage drive, in the 7510 I had a 2TB HDD. No choice but to go for a SATA SSD in this case, I didn't want to sacrifice the battery capacity. High-capacity SSD prices have come down a lot in the last few years, $550ish wasn't too much to swallow to get a 2TB SATA M.2 drive... Much more than an HDD would cost but at least now the SQL databases that I run off of that drive are screaming fast compared to before :p

I'm satisfied with the 4K screen but I will throw out there that it seems to have less of a viewing angle than the 1080p IPS screen that was in my 7510. If not looking at the system straight-on, the screen looks a little bit dim to me. There is no color shifting though.

In a month or 2 after release, you should be able to pick up the smaller battery on ebay, or possibly Dell themselves. If you do not mind shorter battery life, it should work just fine with a 2.5" drive and small battery.

Installed a sim card, kind of works - I am still waiting for the antennas to be delivered from China.

Mine never showed that. It just went from "confirming order" directly to "shipped out".

Confirming the order took one week.
