Precision 7530 & Precision 7730 owner's thread

Yes, I was enrolled in Windows Insider. The Fast Ring served up the new BIOS, which as I said isn't on the Dell site yet.

Unrelated to this, I've had general instability in my system any time the DIMM slots on the bottom of the machine are populated. I believe it is particular to my machine since I haven't heard anyone else have this issue. Dell agrees and is sending a replacement.

 

Does anybody have geek bench results on a Dell 7730 w/ i9 Processor, P5200 Gfx card, and at least 32GB ram? Trying to compare to latest MacBook Pro that just got released. Thanks!

 

There are no two ways about it. The latest MacBook Pros are power throttle-fests. Forget thermal throttling, forget over-current throttling.

The AC adaptor—rated at 87 W—doesn't provide enough power for any CPU that Intel has released in recent times to ramp up thoroughly.

They are bound to universally slow down compared to any of these laptops.

 

There is no comparison here. Their GPUs are in a different weight class. The Radeon 560X will perform close to a GTX 1050 (or Quadro P2000 for workstation comparison). It is only a small improvement over its predecessor. Even if the 7730 has the Max-Q P5200 it will have about 4x the performance

Max out cpu and GPU, but buy ram and Samsung 970 SSD will be much cheaper and even faster

 

That's what I was planning on doing...what do you recommend for ram? I assume attempt the 3200Mhz? I was thinking (even though it is more expensive and a little slower) to just go with the dell ram (for support reasons) and only upgrade the SSD to 970 Evo's. Thoughts?

 

I got the gskill 64gb. 3200mhz, ram arrivedn but leptop is still under production. Also going to Samsung 970

 

7730 with P3200 and 8GB is on the way. Now it is time to order some RAM. 32GB should be enough. What is your proposal ?
- Re-use existing 8GB and buy additional 3x8GB ?
- Sell existing 8GB and buy 2x16GB ?
- Which type of memory do you prefer and which memory is confirmed to be working ?

I have a few questions with regards to the configuration options:

1) How many HD slots are there and are they all NVMe PCIe slots?

2) If I only choose one HD - the most basic 2.5" 500GB 7200 RPM - can I just buy a 970 EVO and transfer the OS onto that and take out the 2.5" HD or must I choose m.2 NVMe PCIe SSD from the beginning to be able to do that?

3) I believe I can select the basic RAM option, take it out and put in up to 32 or 64GB correct?

4) If I do the above and select the i9-8950HK CPU I do not seem able to select the IGZO panel, nor the 6-cell battery. Is there a reason for this?

5) What is the benefit of the DigitalPersona FIPS fingerprint and smart card with Next touch finger print reader and smart card?
