Precision 7530 & Precision 7730 owner's thread

Update for everyone on the WD19DC: it has been ordered and will ship soon.

Meanwhile, my TB18DC has had some hiccups even in the few days that I've had it connected to my Precision 7530. The USB ports stopped working for awhile, but a reboot seemed to fix it.

 

Anybody have a 7730 with the HD+/900p panel? Is it trash? Or has anybody replaced a panel?

 

I've replaced the panel in a number of Precision systems (M6700, M4800, 7510, 7530)... really straightforward. Pull the bezel off, take a few screws out, disconnect the cable, done. (Then do it backwards to put the new panel in.) Often when going from a lower-resolution panel to a higher one you will need to replace the display cable in addition to the panel. Everything is eDP on these new systems so there shouldn't be any board compatibility issues.

That's an important aspect I haven't thought about. In foreseen future the laptop will just sit on my desk, I might take it with me somewhere once a month or so. Will try to learn something about TG Kryonaut in "mobile use".

Thanks for all the hints! I'll gear up and proceed with it. My only concern is impact of the disassembly on the keyboard bezel - right now it sits very well and I'd love to keep it like that.

 

Just got an email from dell support saying they are validating a bios update that fixes the audio latency issues with the 7530/7730! make sure you get it if you do anything audio/music production related on this laptop.

 

I was under the impression it was clear; my bad. Dell uses green thermal pads, whereas Fujipoly's pads are purple. Replace all of them, if you are going to replace any.

The keyboard bezel can actually be removed with a gentle pull of the fingers. I have removed it plenty of times to get at the internals (this laptop is a pain in the neck because the heatpipes face the top rather than the bottom, necessitating almost complete disassembly), and it keeps fit perfectly all the time.

You might want to use a spudger if you feel you aren't sure you can remove it with your fingers alone.

New TPM update. It is labeled 7.2.0.2_V1, and the previous version was 7.2.0.2. It looks like the difference only has to do with installing it, so if you did manage to install the previous update (which was tricky, at least for me) then there is probably no need to bother with this one.
