I also got a 4K panel on my 7530 with no real issues. Only a bit of bleed on lower left and right but completely not noticeable in almost every use case.

I can only compare this panel to the 4K Dreamcolor panel I had on my HP ZBook 15 G4 and the Dell panel is significantly better and brighter, though in fairness the ZBook 15 G4 from the previous generation compared to the 7530.

    Can I believe the BIOS - I guess so. I ordered 32Gb (2 x 16) in my 7730, the BIOS indicates a "single" 32Gb module. So...

They hate me: By forcing me to remove the keyboard if I want to add more
They love me: Allowing me easy path to 128Gb without having to throw away 2 16Gb modules.

So I guess it's one of those love/hate relationships :)

I guess it's no big deal, I've just seen videos and watched a Dell tech remove the keyboard on my other Precision. It just seemed so fragile.

It's interesting though - I didn't realize at first - that they installed the single SSD in one of the three slots beneath the large bottom cover. Making it simpler - less steps - to add one to the slot next to the battery.

Also, I only noticed today the SSD specs in the spec guide. I just assumed they were all NVMe capable. But, is my guess below accurate?

    * 3 under the large cover are NVMe
    * 1 next to the battery is just M.2 SATA - but hopefully supports more than 512Gb as stated

Oh, and in case someone out there uses UEFI bootable recover media like I do for occasional off-line backups, the BIOS boot selection screen didn't recognize it like my other Dells. I noticed I had BIOS 1.4.2 - so with nothing to loose - since I just got the unit - I installed 1.6.0. Had to do it manually via the web site since Command Update initially checked/recommended it but would not install it.

That fixed the problem. Now that thumb drive is recognized and boots just as in my other machines. I guess I'm glad i waited to buy until now, but dang, hasn't this unit been out a while?

All four M.2 slots can use both NVMe and SATA.

    Hi

Does anyone in the UK have the part number for the power adaptor / supply that came with their Precision 7530? I am close to ordering the Precision 7530 and wanted to order an additional power supply so I have one for home and one for the road.

I spoke with Dell this afternoon and they basically stated they could not help as the don't have the part number for it on their system.

    Thanks in advance

    Shaun

That's good to hear. The note below in their manual is what made me think one only supported SATA.

    "NOTE: Slot 4: SATA; Slot 3, 5, 6: PCIe."

I looked on the parts site and couldn't find the new 180W adapter available for sale, I wonder if they're not shipping it separately for some reason...

This is the U.S. part for the older style 180W adapter that also works fine with the 7530. I'm not sure if they are the same internationally. Physically, the adapters are all the same except for the detachable cable that runs from the brick to the outlet.

The difference between this one and the newer one is simply that the size/shape has changed and the newer one is a bit smaller. I have a comparison photo in the first post in this thread.

Thanks for coming back, I find the dell website very messy in the UK.

Does anyone have any experience with the WX 7100 in a 7730? How is it for CAD and the odd 1080p game?

I'm receiving a Precision 7730 soon, and I just finished reading this thread, starting from post one.... it really took a while to read all that! What is interesting to me is that there are converts coming from Lenovo to Dell, HP to Dell, and probably an equal amount of migration the other directions, too. It seems like universally, everyone has quality problems with new workstations like these. Also, it seems that Dell has always had docking station problems...

The Lenovo's have a strong inner chassis and very likely, the best keyboards in the business. Also, I won't complain about their reliability - there's a nine year old T410 in this office that is very soon to be upgraded, and that's honestly a strong track record. The dealbreaker for me is the plastic external layer on all of their professional level laptops. When you actually take a Thinkpad and toss it in a backup after a couple of years, it will inevitably break on plastic stress points on the corners or sides. That is unfortunate, as when you get used to their keyboards everyone else is a step down.

Apple MacBook Pro's deserve mention because in some aspects, they are way beyond other laptop makers. They directly solder primary system components to the motherboard, and reduce their SKU possibilities to a bare minimum. Their focus on a few sets of hardware possibilities in a tightly defined environment of operating system and hardware and huge budget means that the quality control issues everyone else experiences are virtually non-existent on Apple MacBooks. If you buy a MacBook Pro, it will very likely work exactly as advertised out of the box and stay working that way for many years. On the other hand, Apple loves to make big pie-in-the-sky choices like replacing real function keys with colorful LED touch bars, and booting to Windows directly on their hardware is troublesome at best. And, of course, the upper performance on these things set a very, very low bar to what we're used to in this space. If all you need to do is do web browsing, though, these things cannot be beat.

Right now, I'm typing on an HP 8770W. I've nicknamed this the "aircraft carrier" because it is a big, solid piece of metal. I don't recall ever seeing a bluescreen on this, and the keyboard is very firm and a pleasure to type on. It's heavy but pretty indestructible. And, just like HP's latest bleeding-edge HP 17 G5, it's got a DVD drive that I maybe use once per year, just to show my son what a DVD looks like and how it works. I understand their speakers are much better than the Dells. But, I'm not getting a new HP, I'm getting a new Precision 7730, so I'm sort of crossing my fingers to make sure it doesn't have any Quality Control issues like I see mentioned on this forum.
