So far I only updated BIOS and USB issue with dock is still present. So my guess is that dock firmware update is needed.

Hey guys, new 7530 owner here! Expecting my laptop next week.

I wanted to know if anyone here has purchased / used a 128gb ram configuration of this laptop yet and what their experience was like when working close to max ram usage. I'm a film/tv music producer and I use templates that use around 90-100gb of ram and I'm worried about the stability of this laptop when running under that level of use, especially considering the ram is non-ecc and the i9-8950hk is not technically rated on intels website for supporting 128gb ram.

    Thanks!

Each time it asks you to place your finger press it down onto the reader and do not move or lift it until it has scanned and asks you to do it again. Then lift finger and do same each time.

I was getting same error when enrolling fingerprints with the non-FIPS reader. If I remember correctly I was following the Windows instructions too literally, I think it asks “place and lift your finger...”. If you do it more or less quickly it eventually gives the error you describe. But when I pressed down my finger until it notified that it was done with that iteration then I never got that error again at the end.

To me my 7530 with Xeon E-2176M has better battery life than did my ZBook 15 G4 with Kaby Lake i7-7820HQ and almost equivalent previous gen specs (incl 4K panel), though that battery was slightly smaller at 90 Wh versus 93.2 Wh on my 7530 (like everyone else it seems no one got a 97 Wh battery with no wear). Either way to me it’s a major improvement because the 7530 is noticeably more powerful and faster across the board since it’s a gen ahead.

My 7530 has no thermal issues or throttling. With Kryonaut repasting and undervolting it maintains an all core max turbo indefinitely under max load with temps always < 87 C.

I would definitely not recommend getting the smaller battery on the 7530, period. It will have 1/3 less battery life. Even if your use case is to have it plugged in most of the time, because I think that config would seriously harm its used resale value down the road.

2.5 SATA SSDs will soon be a thing of the past on most laptops, Dell just thought ahead with this model giving it 3 M.2 slots. M.2 storage prices will eventually be fairly equivalent to 2.5 SATA.

I just received my 7530 that took some damage in transit. The box took some kind of force that also hit the bottom of the laptop and cracked it. Bummer. I removed the bottom and looked inside and the internals seem to be fine with no issues booting Windows. But the damage is disappointing nonetheless.

Is this something that you think I should have repaired? If so, would Pro support handle it or would Dell just mail me a new bottom cover?

It is a transport damage. I would not accept any repair. Only a replacement unit is acceptable.

If you don't think that there is any other problems, I think that Dell Pro Support would be totally happy to mail you a new bottom cover. You can have them not send a technician out for parts that are easily user replaceable. (Not a part that I've ever had replaced before, I wonder how they handle i.e. the service tag sticker that is stuck on there...)

Thanks, I gave them a call and they are shipping out a new bottom cover. They said I should transfer the old stickers over to the new cover after heating them with a hair dryer to loosen the glue.

I think you should've asked for a total unit replacement, rather than fix a mistake that the shipper made...
