    just received my 7730 yey!
thinking about bloatware - Is it worth reinstalling windows 10 pro from the scratch? which software installed by Dell worth reinstalling after doing clean install?
1tb 970pro + 16gb hyperx ram when it smoothly. very impressed with build quality. still like my m6800 keyboard more than new ones :(

Precision generally come without too much bloatware installed (probably there is more from just Microsoft's Windows 10 pre-loaded apps). I still always reinstall anyway. The only software that I have found necessary to install from Dell is the Intel serial IO driver (for touchpad to work), ControlVault software (for fingerprint reader), Thunderbolt stuff (updated driver and firmware), and the updated system BIOS. And the ASMedia USB driver if you have a Thunderbolt dock (the Microsoft driver, installed by default, didn't work very well).

You'll need to have a Wi-Fi or Ethernet driver available as well (on a flash drive or something), Windows 10 didn't have inbox drivers for either of them, you can get these either from Dell or Intel directly. Once you get the system connected to the Internet, Windows 10 will automatically pull in almost all of the remaining drivers silently, within a few minutes. (Or you can manually fire off Windows Update and it will pick them up there.)

I tried Dell Power Manager to check out the alternate "thermal profiles" to change the fan behavior. I found the "quiet" setting to be generally louder than the default setting so I'm not using that anymore.

    thanks @Aaron44126 for the tips!
yep can't believe how much stuff windows installs these days. whats the best way to do that? I'm keeping 256gb drive and want to install win10 on newly inserted 970pro.
boot from usb win10 iso, install it on new disk and then change bios settings? is it the only way to do it?

I'm not surprised to see that the GeForce drivers didn't enable overclocking, as it's likely a bios lock. I'd still love to hear Dell's reasoning on keeping the GPU so power limited, but here's my take on it:

Workstations are designed to be stable, reliable and ISV certified first and foremost. Up until now, both Dell and Lenovo only offered 50w GPUs in their 15" workstations. I believe this decision was made to ensure thermal stability while accommodating the MXM form factor. Apparently, anything higher couldn't be cooled in a 15" chassis to either their own workstation standards, if they exist, or certain ISV standards. It's possible that Dell is keeping the power and thermals reduced so aggressively on their new 75w offering to meet certain ISV certifications, perhaps which the P52 cannot support. This is purely speculation, as Lenovo doesn't have their ISVs listed for the P52 yet and I'm not sure I care enough to do that detective work.

Alternatively, it's entirely possible that Dell simply went overkill with the limitation and are gaining no benefits over Lenovo, which outperforms the Dell in graphics without consequence.

Regardless, as @yrekabakery said early on in the other thread, I don't think anyone should be shopping workstations if performance is your highest priority. Workstations will always compromise on performance, even in the case of the P52 with Max-Q implementation, to retain more stability. Consumers who shop workstations, in my opinion, are ones who've been burned by consumer devices or support failing one too many times. For me personally, a 10% performance delta isn't a deal breaker. It still operates within my desired performance tier and is worlds faster than the P2000. Perhaps if this was my primary device, I'd be singing a different tune.

I am in the process of purchasing my 7730 now so I can do my 4k video editing. One question I wanted to ask, what are some option for a 3rd party SSD to install? I like to keep my OS and asset files on different drives, so I have ordered the system with a 1tb SSD, but I want to add another 1TB SSD to the system as well to hold my footage when I work on projects.

    Thanks!

When I was trying to figure out why the GPU wasn't performing well, I played around with some of these settings. Yes, it doesn't seem like quiet will actually stop the fans from spinning when it seems they shouldn't need to, but I did notice when gaming that it kept it very quiet compared to normal. This also resulted in massive throttling, but still. Nice to know we have the option.

My biggest issue is Dell's lack of transparency in not divulging that the 7530 uses the P3200 Max-Q, never mind that it is a further reduced Max-Q version.

So Per Bokeh, the P5200 only have 175 fps on 7730. and Per this review(https://post.smzdm.com/p/723405/) the p3200 has 167.56fps on p3200. Why P5200 just has 8 frames more?? also CPU score, the
XEON E-2176M has CPU: 1268 - 1298, and 8850H has CPU 1242. That difference is minimal too. Something wrong? especially with the GPU?

Because Cinebench is rubbish at predicting/benchmarking any sort of GPU performance.

"results may vary" is the polite way to put it.
Reference this chart: (taken from notebookcheck)
Notice the GTX 970 does about 15% better than the Titian X Pascal, LoL.

As for CPU; upper tier mobile CPUs perform relatively closely in Cinebench. 40-60 points is pretty ok in this segment

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO RUN THE CHICKEN BLOOD TEST!

"In the figure, we can see that in the chicken blood time of the test, the CPU power consumption immediately reached 88W, and the basic level can be stabilized at about 85 degrees, and the overall level is close to the desktop I7-8700K. but. . . . When the chicken blood time passed, Power Limit Throttling immediately lit up the yellow light, and the power consumption returned to the 60W warning line. After about 20 minutes, the temperature is stable at around 77 degrees. "

    Thank you google translate;)
